Comping

Comping

Entering competitions is a serious business for lots of compers, and it’s something I’ve been meaning to get into for a while. So, I guess it’s time to make a start!

What is comping?

Compers enter competitions regularly and obviously hope to win! With the wonder of the world-wide-web, you can enter hundreds of competitions daily. Some compers treat this as a bit of a hobby, whilst others make it their number one priority.

How can you get involved?

I’ll admit I’m really new to comping, in fact I’ve only entered a handful myself. I’ve run a few on My Money Cottage so I understand some of the legalities behind hosting competititions, but I’m about to enter the world of comping as a “consumer”.

Firstly, I’d highly recommend setting yourself up with an email address purely for entering competitions. I’ve made the daft mistake of using my personal email for a couple and now they’re constantly full of spam which makes it very hard to filter through.

You should enter as many competitions as you’re able to. There are numerous websites you can use to find competitions, this is only a handful:

https://www.theprizefinder.com/

http://www.loquax.co.uk/

https://thecomper.co.uk/

There are also groups you can join on Facebook and it’s worth regularly checking #competition and #giveaway on twitter.

What can you win?

The sky is quite literally the limit with comping. Prizes range from small items such as pens, socks, chocolates etc up to exotic holidays, cars and thousands of £££.

I’m going to aim to enter 300 competitions from now until the end of March. That should be achievable for me around my other commitments. You don’t have to set yourself a goal, just have fun and you never know what you’ll win!

I’d love to hear about other sites you use and please SHARE YOUR GOOD FORTUNE with us in the comments!

My mum and I decided to spend a year comping, last year just to see what would happen. Well, we did win lots of great prizes, all kinds of things we just would not have had the spare money to buy and we really enjoyed the whole comping hobby. We are carrying on this year but being a bit more selective with the comps we enter.
