Accountants always get their finances right. They spend all year preparing for that all-important tax season, so when it rolls around again, they are able to pay their tax bills. But you can be just like they are when it comes to your budget and your taxes.

Here are some simple tricks and tips that will have you managing your personal finance like an accountant.

Do Some Research

Before you embark on overturning your personal finances, read up on the best practices on blogs such as Hotspotfinance. They say that knowledge is power, so the more you know about how to manage your own finances, the better.

Get Organized

Don’t sit around waiting for your finances to sort themselves, get organized. Find a half an hour slot that you spent each day to work on your finances. If you are strict with your time and get into a routine of working on your finances, you will soon be on top of them.

Find a place where you can store all of your documents. If you have all of your documents in one place, then it will be easier to keep track of them. Whenever a bill arrives, put it into the right place straight away. Whenever you bring home a receipt, make sure that this gets filed away too.

Knowing where everything is will mean that you will be able to keep tabs on them all.

Once you have all of your bills and receipts in one place it will be time to organize them further.

Get a Filofax with monthly tabs and sort all of your receipts by month. Then, set up a calendar with all of the due dates for your bills. You can then check your calendar every day to see which bills are due to be paid.

Work Out Where Your Expenses Are Going

Once you have all of your receipts and bills filed and in order, it will be easy for you to see where your money is going. Go through all of your expenditure using a spreadsheet and document everything. Then, start to highlight any outgoings that you could live without. You may have been spending out too much money on eating out or having takeaways, or you might be paying for a streaming service that you don’t actually use. Take this opportunity to cut out some of these things and then see how much you will be able to save instead.

Create Savings Goals

Make a plan to try and save at least ten percent of your income. You may need to free up some of your expenditure to be able to do this, however, if you can save this much, then it will be very useful in the longterm.

Use Apps To Do The Work For You

Once you have a system in place, you may be able to use a range of different apps to track your bills and outgoings. This will mean that all of the information that you need to control your finances will be at your fingertips.
