I was fortunate enough to receive the audiobook Sleeps to Christmas earlier this week.
As a Mum of 3, I know all too well the difficulties that bedtime can bring. Fortunately, my two boys aged 10 and 20 months are fairly good at going to bed. My 7 year old daughter has always been the unsettled one. I think part of the problem for her is that she doesn’t like being on her own, particularly in a quiet, dark room. Until she was 4 she shared a bedroom with her brother so it wasn’t really an issue. When we moved house though, she had a room to herself and found it really difficult to settle.
We got round the problem by allowing her to have a DVD on after her bedtime story. I was really against the idea for a while, I thought the DVD would keep her awake. We tried it though and she lay quietly, not actually watching the DVD, just listening to it. She fell asleep without any problems within 20 minutes.
So now, 3 years on and another house move later, she still falls asleep with her DVD on in the background for company.
I was really excited about the opportunity to try out Sleeps for Christmas, an audiobook from Sleep Stories. The idea is that your child relaxs to the soothing sound of the story. Although my little girl didn’t fall asleep listening to the story, it definitely helped her to relax.
The story takes the child on a journey to Christmas morning, meeting some festive characters along the way. It’s magical.
I’d highly recommend this for children aged 3 upwards, particularly those who struggle to settle at bedtime. I think we’ll be incorporating Sleeps to Christmas into our bedtime routine from now until the big day. We can’t get enough of the countdown to Christmas in our house and this adds an extra special element to the festive season.
Sleep Stories have a range of other audiobooks in their collection too. There are currently 3 books for adults, all with a hypnotic, calming effect, helping you drift off into a deep sleep.
In collaboration with Sleep Stories.
