5 Tips to Ensure Customer Success
For any business to succeed, the customer needs to have a good experience. Businesses often rely on repeat business (customers who come back again and again) and gaining new customers by word of mouth. The only way that these two things will happen is if the customer is satisfied with their very first experience with your business. If they’re not satisfied, then they won’t come back and they won’t recommend you, it’s that simple.
Customer success happens when a customer’s expectations are either met or exceeded and they’re happy with the service or product you’ve provided for them. It sounds so simple, doesn’t it?! Do a good job and the customer will be satisfied. In reality though, every customer will have their own individual expectations. So how can you ensure customer success on each and every sale?
In reality, you won’t please every customer. But that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t try. These five tips will help your business to provide the very best service on each and every transaction.
1. Know your customer
You need to know your ideal customer inside and out. What do they want from your product? Why are they buying it? How will they use it? If you can understand your customer in intricate detail, then you are far more likely to be able to satisfy their needs.
2. Ask for feedback, and use it
You should never be afraid to ask your customers for feedback.
In an ideal world, you will have tested a product or service before putting it to market and gained feedback from your test audience. But even once your product or service is on general sale, you need to regularly ask for customer feedback.
Ask customers what they expected from your business and whether their expectations were met. You can collect customer feedback through a variety of different means. For example, if your business operates within the healthcare sector, you may want to utilize traditional patient surveys (you can look online for an example of patient experience survey for inspiration), or you could, instead, make use of short online questionnaires that focus on a recent purchase the customer made.
No matter how you collect it, use feedback to tailor your service for future transactions so that you are constantly adapting your service to ensure you’re providing the best service possible.
3. Be proactive
You always need to be one step ahead in business. That means proactively working to avoid any potential issues rather than reacting to issues as and when they occur. Of course, there will be some things that you simply couldn’t plan for, but planning ahead and working hard to pre-empt any problems will help to ensure your customers are satisfied.
4. Keep your workforce involved
Your employees are probably the ones who face your customers each and every day. You need to make sure that they understand your expectations and that they are just as determined to ensure customers are happy as you are. Have regular meetings, get their opinions and keep them informed.
5. Know the customer journey
Regularly test out the journey that your customers are likely to take when they buy from you. If they land on your website and start to make a purchase then leave before completing, you need to understand why that might happen. Is there an issue with your sales or basket pages? Make sure that each step of any purchase is user-friendly.
6. Get the branding right
Right from day one, it’s important to put some thought into branding. The name you choose for your business along with your business logo and brand colours needs to be appealing to customers. Ideally, you’ll want to choose a name that reflects what your business is about and is easy for your customers to remember. You can use Conjointly’s Business Name Evaluator to help you to come up with a strong and effective name for your business.
Keeping your customers happy is so important if your business is going to succeed, and it doesn’t need to be overly complicated.
