5 Unique Uses for Shipping Containers
We’ve all seen the shipping containers stacked high at the docks filled with goodness know what. But shipping containers can be used for all kinds of weird and wonderful things, they’re not limited to just storing stuff. I’ve been having a look at the different and unique ways that shipping containers have been used.
1. Homes
Did you know that there are people actually living in shipping containers? This might not be as daft an idea as it first sounds! Think about it, the initial costs have to be far less than buying an actual house, and I’d guess that the day-to-day running costs are far less too!
If this is something that might interest you, then the first step is to look for shipping containers for sale. They can vary dramatically in cost but if you’re going to live in it, then you need to make sure you’re buying a quality container. You may want to link a few containers together to get a larger home. Then, it’s simply a case of fitting out your container in a way that makes it suitable for you to live in.
2. Schools
Schools can cost a fortune to build and it can take years before they’re completed. Adapting storage containers is far quicker and could work out a lot cheaper too. Storage containers can be adapted to suit pretty much anything and with a few containers together, it wouldn’t be difficult to create a whole school!
3. Offices
Storage containers are a great option for offices when they’re needed for businesses that don’t have any indoor premises. These could be car sales places, construction sites or any other industry where it’s common to work mostly outdoors. The beauty with this is that the containers can be moved if necessary. This is perfect for the construction industry where the office may need to be relocated for a new project.
4. Hotels
I guess if they’re good enough to be homes, then it makes sense that storage containers would also be great to use as hotels. Whilst this isn’t something we see too much of in the UK, Storage Container Hotels are common in other parts of the world. The great thing with these is that they are fairly cheap to construct, they can be adapted to suit the hotel’s needs and they can even be moved if necessary.
5. Bridge
I was amazed to learn that there are actual bridges made out of shipping containers! That’s a pretty unique way to use them! When you consider that shipping containers are made out of one of the strongest materials on earth, then I guess it makes sense really! These bridges are easy to build, cheaper than more traditional bridges and they’ll last a lifetime too.
When I started to look into all the different used for shipping containers, I was really blown away by the different things they have been used for. But, using shipping containers is often cheaper than other materials, faster to build and extremely durable, so I guess it’s not so hard to understand after all.
