Christmas Tree Oreos
I love making fun little treats at Christmas, especially ones that look really cute but don’t take ages to put together. These Christmas Tree Oreos are so simple to make, and they’re perfect for adding a bit of festive fun to your Christmas baking. You only need a handful of ingredients, and there’s no actual baking involved, which is always a bonus when you’ve already got a million other things to do in the run-up to Christmas!
All you’re doing is dipping Oreos in melted white candy, then decorating them with green candy melts to make little Christmas trees. Add a star on top and a few colorful sprinkles, and they’re done! They’re a lovely one to make with the kids too. They can have loads of fun adding the decorations, and it really doesn’t matter if their Christmas trees turn out a bit wonky.
These are great for Christmas parties, school holiday treats, or just making something fun to enjoy at home. I think they look lovely on a Christmas cookie platter alongside all the other festive goodies, and you can easily make a bigger batch if you need to. They’re also a nice little treat to pop into Christmas goodie bags once they’ve set completely.

Ingredients
-
12 Oreo cookies – Regular Oreos work perfectly for this, but you could use Double Stuf if you prefer a bit more filling.
-
1 cup green candy melts – These are used to pipe the little Christmas trees on top of the Oreos.
-
1/2 cup white candy melts – For dipping the bottom half of each Oreo to give them a snowy look.
-
12 star sprinkles – One for the top of each Christmas tree. I like using little yellow or gold stars.
-
1 tsp nonpareils sprinkles – These tiny colorful sprinkles make lovely little Christmas decorations on the trees.

Recipe Instructions
Full measurements and cooking times can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
Step 1: Melt the white candy melts according to the package directions until smooth, then melt the green candy melts in a separate bowl.

Step 2: Dip the bottom half of each Oreo into the melted white candy, tapping gently on the edge of the bowl to remove excess, and place on a baking sheet or plate.
Step 3: Transfer the melted green candy into a piping bag and drizzle over the top of each Oreo in a zigzag pattern to resemble a Christmas tree.

Step 4: While the green candy is still wet, add a star sprinkle to the top of each tree and decorate with nonpareils sprinkles.

Step 5: Let the cookies set completely, or place them in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes to speed up the process, then carefully remove and serve.

What to Serve with Christmas Tree Oreos

If you’re looking for more ideas, I’ve got a whole collection of 25 Christmas Cookie Recipes that would go really well with these!
-
Christmas cookies – Mix these in with gingerbread cookies, sugar cookies, and other festive favorites for a lovely Christmas cookie platter.
-
Hot chocolate – You can’t beat a mug of hot chocolate with a few Christmas cookies, especially on a cold December afternoon.
-
Christmas brownies – Add some rich, chocolatey brownies to your platter for a bit of variety.
-
Christmas fudge – A few pieces of homemade fudge go really nicely alongside these decorated Oreos.
-
Ice cream – Serve one or two alongside a bowl of vanilla ice cream for a really easy Christmas dessert.
-
Milk – Sometimes you just can’t beat a few Oreos with a cold glass of milk!
Storing
These Christmas Tree Oreos are really easy to make ahead of time, which is always handy when you’ve got lots going on over Christmas. Just make sure the candy coating has completely set before you put them away, otherwise you might end up with a bit of a sticky mess!
Keep them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. I’d recommend storing them somewhere cool and dry, away from direct sunlight or anything warm that might cause the candy melts to soften. If you’re stacking them, pop a sheet of parchment paper between the layers to protect the decorations.
You don’t need to keep them in the fridge, although you can if your kitchen is particularly warm. Just bear in mind that condensation can sometimes make the candy coating look a bit patchy when you take them out.
I wouldn’t bother freezing these. They’re so quick to make, and the decorations look much nicer when they’re freshly made. If you’re making them for a Christmas party, you can easily get them ready a day or two beforehand and have one less thing to worry about!

Variations & Substitutions
One of the things I love about these Christmas Tree Oreos is how easy they are to change up. You can have loads of fun with the decorations, and you don’t have to stick to the exact ingredients I’ve used. They’re a great way to use up any leftover Christmas sprinkles you’ve got sitting in the cupboard too!
-
Try different Oreos. Regular Oreos work perfectly, but you could use Double Stuf, Golden Oreos, or even one of the flavored varieties for something a bit different.
-
Use white chocolate. If you don’t have white candy melts, you can use melted white chocolate instead. Just be careful not to overheat it.
-
Change the tree colors. I love the traditional green Christmas trees, but you could make pink, white, or even blue trees for a fun change.
-
Mix up the sprinkles. Use mini candy stars, tiny sugar pearls, or festive red and green sprinkles to decorate your trees.
-
Add a little sparkle. A sprinkle of edible glitter or sanding sugar would make these look really pretty on a Christmas cookie platter.
-
Try different cookies. You don’t have to use Oreos! Any similar-sized round sandwich cookie should work just as well.
-
Make them extra chocolatey. Dip the whole Oreo in melted chocolate or candy melts before adding your Christmas tree decorations. Just let the first coating set before piping the trees on top.

FAQs
Can I make Christmas Tree Oreos ahead of time?
Yes! These Christmas Tree Oreos are perfect for making ahead, especially if you're planning a Christmas party or putting together a festive cookie platter. You can make them a day or two in advance and keep them in an airtight container somewhere cool and dry until you're ready to serve them.
Do I need to bake Christmas Tree Oreos?
No, there's no baking involved at all! These are really easy no-bake Christmas cookies made with store-bought Oreos, candy melts, and sprinkles. They're great when you want to make something festive without having to turn the oven on.
Can I use white chocolate instead of candy melts?
Yes, you can use melted white chocolate instead of the white candy melts. Just melt it gently so it doesn't seize. For the Christmas trees, you can use white chocolate with oil-based green food coloring, although green candy melts are usually easier to work with.
How do I melt candy melts for decorating Oreos?
The easiest way is to melt them in the microwave following the package instructions. Heat them in short bursts, stirring between each one until they're completely smooth. Be careful not to overheat them, as they can become thick and difficult to pipe.
How long do Christmas Tree Oreos take to set?
The candy melts will usually set in around 15–30 minutes at room temperature, depending on how warm your kitchen is. If you're in a hurry, you can pop the decorated Oreos in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes to help them set a little faster.
How long do decorated Oreo cookies last?
These decorated Christmas Oreos should keep well for up to a week in an airtight container at room temperature. Make sure the candy coating has completely hardened before storing them, and keep them away from heat and direct sunlight.
Can I freeze Christmas Tree Oreos?
You can freeze decorated Oreos, but I wouldn't really recommend it for these. The candy coating can develop condensation when thawing, which might affect the appearance of your Christmas trees and sprinkles. They're so quick to make that I'd stick to making them fresh or a couple of days ahead.
Can kids help make these Christmas Oreo cookies?
Definitely! This is a lovely Christmas activity to do with the kids. Younger children can help add the stars and sprinkles, while older kids can have a go at piping the Christmas trees. Just make sure an adult handles the hot melted candy.
Can I use regular frosting to decorate Christmas Tree Oreos?
Yes, you can use green buttercream frosting instead of candy melts if you prefer. Just bear in mind that frosting won't set hard like candy melts, so the cookies will be a little messier to handle and won't be as easy to stack or package for gifts.
