Budgeting Entertainment – Fun Ideas for a Wallet-friendly Weekend
As is often the case, during times of global economic strife, we are forced to adjust and change our spending habits. Making smart financial decisions means determining priorities and cutting down on, let’s call them, pleasures.
Still, that doesn’t mean we must give up on everything that makes us happy, such as spending time with friends and loved ones. We just need to be creative and get a positive response from those with whom we want to bring our wallet-friendly ideas into reality.
Here are a few options to try out:
Take Online Classes
You can spend quality time with friends whilst learning new skills. There are all sorts of free courses available online. They are fun and engaging, tailored to meet different preferences and levels.
Cooking Classes
Every party is better when there’s food. Of course, you can buy snacks or order pizza, but wouldn’t it be more fun to prepare the food together?
Even when there are no people in your group with cooking talent, this isn’t a problem. You can find an online cooking class that everyone can follow.
The best thing to do is find a class in advance to know what ingredients to source and how much time you’ll need to prepare the meal(s). After all, you would want to enjoy the fruits of your work without rushing.
Mixology Courses
Organise a cocktail party where everyone can participate in the preparation. Search through YouTube to find tutorials your friends would like to watch. The goal is to make tasty, affordable cocktails and sharpen your mixology skills.
Also, remember that there might be some who don’t drink alcohol and you’ll want to cater for that possibility. Look for videos explaining the process of preparing mocktails. These can be fun to explore and learn more about, not just among your friends who don’t drink alcohol.
Dance Lessons
You’ve probably heard of (or maybe took part in) some TikTok dance challenge. These videos were a massive hit during the pandemic, but why not use them as an inspiration for your next party?
You can find various dance lessons on YouTube. From hip-hop and Cuban salsa to standards like the waltz and tango, there’s something for everyone’s taste and abilities.
You can’t learn everything in one night, but that’s not the point, really. These gatherings are about having fun and an excellent opportunity for the shy ones to step out of their (dis)comfort zone.
Organise a Game Night
Game night is a great option for those who want to relax after a busy work week. It’s also a cost-effective alternative to a ”traditional” night out.
Bingo Party
Bingo was and still is one of the most popular games of luck worldwide. In some countries, like the UK, the game has a social dimension. Many generations visited bingo halls to play the game and spend time with other bingo enthusiasts with whom they often built life-long friendships.
Although going to a bingo hall might have once constituted a wallet-friendly night out, there are precious few left to visit these days. However, thanks to technological advances and the internet, you can organise a bingo party in your home.
Thanks to the boom, the best online bingo sites are only a few clicks away. Not only can you play traditional bingo, but there are other variants available that you and your friends can access via smartphones and tablets.
Board Games Night
The board game market continues to surprise with new titles. Not only do they attract the youngest population, but board games for adults have a considerable fan base.
You don’t have to limit yourself to Monopoly or Risk (you can if that’s what your friends enjoy the most, of course). Instead, explore other options, such as Ticket to Ride, Betrayal at House on the Hill, Mysterium, and Game of Thrones.
In addition, many board games have an online version, enabling participants to learn the rules and sharpen their skills before the next get-together.
Play Card Games
When we say card games, poker very well could be your first association, but it’s just one of the many, many options available to you. You can play Spades, Hearts, Canasta, or Gin Rummy. The choice will depend on who you plan to invite and their preferences.
If you have a group of passionate casino players, you can, of course, organise a poker or a blackjack night. But it’s critical to determine the rules upfront. For example, it’s only for fun; betting with real money is out of the question.
Oh, and don’t forget to buy some snacks and drinks!
DIY Projects
DIY projects are real creativity drivers, inspiring us to build something from scratch or repurpose the objects we already have. And they usually don’t cost much.
For instance, you can use baking soda and acrylic paint, by mixing the two you can use it to paint jars and wine bottles to give them a ceramic pottery look. Jars and bottles painted like that can then be used as vases.
Another interesting option is a visionary board. Every person creates their board. You can cut out pictures and quotes from magazines and use them to express what you are grateful for, praise yourself for achievements, or even lay down plans for the future.
The above-listed suggestions prove you don’t have to break the bank to have fun and be with the people you love. Besides, you can’t put a price tag on relationships you deeply care about. And, the most valuable thing you can offer to someone these days is exactly that – your time.
