December: A Rollercoaster of Emotions and Busy Moments

As December rolls on, life feels like it’s in full swing. With three children in the house (although one is now officially an adult), this time of year is always bustling, but this year seems to have its own special brand of chaos. There are Christmas concerts, school projects, holiday preparations, and of course, the usual juggling act of everyday life. Despite the madness, there’s something magical about the energy the kids bring to the season – whether it’s decorating the tree, getting excited for presents, or just spreading their holiday cheer everywhere they go.

However, this December has also thrown us some unexpected challenges. For those that don’t know, as well as three kids, we also have two dogs and two cats. Sadly, our beloved cat Casper, who’s usually our furry little companion snuggled up by the fire, experienced something terrifying. He was hit by a car and disappeared for three long, agonizing nights. We knew he’d likely been hit as a neighbour saw a cat get hit not far from our house. Those days felt like an eternity as we searched high and low for him in the freezing cold. Thankfully, after what felt like forever, he returned home, battered but alive. The relief was overwhelming, though the reality of his injuries has been hard to face. He’s lost the use of his tail for now, and there are pins in his leg to help it heal. Every day brings a little more hope that he’ll recover, but for now, we’re doing everything we can to make him as comfortable as possible. We have to keep him confined to a crate for six long weeks! We’re so grateful he’s still with us.

In the midst of all this, there’s also a lot to look forward to. This year, I’m hosting 11 people for Christmas dinner, which is both exciting and a little nerve-wracking. The menu is planned, the decorations are in place, and I’m slowly but surely working through my to-do list. It’s going to be a busy few weeks leading up to the big day, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The house will be full of laughter, good food, and all the warmth that comes with gathering family and friends.

So, here we are—mid-December, juggling joy and challenges, with plenty of hustle and bustle ahead. There’s no doubt it’s a busy time of year, but with family, love, and a little holiday magic, I’m looking forward to the rest of the month and everything it brings.
