Elegant Rose Tiramisu: A Floral Twist on the Classic Dessert

I’ve always been a fan of classic desserts with a twist, and this Rose Tiramisu is no exception. Tiramisu has long been a favorite of mine with its rich layers and creamy texture, but I wanted to give it a little something extra to make it feel even more special. Rosewater, with its delicate floral fragrance, brings an unexpected yet delightful note to the dish, turning a beloved classic into a luxurious treat. It’s perfect for when I’m craving something indulgent but also want to add a touch of elegance.

As a mom of three, I’m always looking for ways to make desserts that feel indulgent but are still relatively simple to prepare. This Rose Tiramisu is exactly that! It’s easy to put together with just a few key ingredients, and while it does require some chilling time, the hands-off nature of the recipe means I can still juggle all my other responsibilities while it sets in the fridge. The combination of mascarpone, whipped cream, and rosewater is nothing short of heavenly, and the contrast between the creamy layers and the slightly soaked ladyfingers is just divine.

I love how this dessert is both visually stunning and incredibly delicious. The final touches of edible rose petals and dried rosebuds really elevate the look, making it a perfect dish to serve for a special occasion or to wow guests at a gathering. Whether it’s a family dinner, a celebration, or just a moment to treat myself, this Rose Tiramisu always hits the spot. It’s a dessert that feels like a celebration of its own!

Ingredients

For the Cream Layer:

  • Mascarpone cheese: This rich and creamy cheese forms the perfect base for the luxurious cream layer, adding smoothness and depth to the tiramisu.
  • Heavy cream, chilled: Chilled heavy cream is whipped to soft peaks, creating a light and airy texture that balances the richness of the mascarpone.
  • Powdered sugar: A touch of powdered sugar sweetens the cream mixture, giving it the perfect amount of sweetness without overpowering the delicate rose flavor.
  • Rosewater: The rosewater infuses the cream with a subtle floral note, elevating the tiramisu to a whole new level of elegance.

For the Layers:

  • Ladyfingers (savoiardi biscuits): These light, sponge-like biscuits soak up the rose-infused milk perfectly, creating layers that are tender yet hold their structure.
  • Warm milk: The warm milk helps the ladyfingers absorb just the right amount of moisture, allowing them to soften without becoming soggy.
  • Rosewater: A hint of rosewater in the milk brings a fragrant floral undertone to every bite, tying the flavors together beautifully.

For Decoration:

  • Edible rose petals: These delicate petals not only add a lovely floral touch but also enhance the elegance of the tiramisu, making it a visually stunning dessert.
  • Dried rosebuds: Dried rosebuds serve as the perfect finishing touch, adding a charming and romantic element to the dessert.
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting): A light dusting of powdered sugar on top adds a sweet finishing touch while also enhancing the visual appeal of the tiramisu.

You can find a printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.

1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk the mascarpone cheese until smooth.

2. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream with the powdered sugar until soft peaks form.

3. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone cheese.

4. Add rosewater and mix until well combined. Adjust rosewater to your preference.

5. In a shallow dish, mix the warm milk with 1 tbsp rosewater.

6. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the milk mixture for 1–2 seconds. Do not oversoak.

7. In an 8×8-inch dish (or individual molds/glasses), place a layer of dipped ladyfingers.

8. Spread half of the mascarpone cream mixture over the ladyfingers.

9. Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone cream. Smooth the top.

10. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.

11. Just before serving, dust the top lightly with powdered sugar.

12. Garnish with edible rose petals and dried rosebuds.

Top Tips

  • Don’t Over-soak the Ladyfingers: When dipping the ladyfingers into the milk mixture, make sure to do it quickly – just 1-2 seconds. If you soak them too long, they can become too soggy and lose their structure, which will affect the texture of the tiramisu.

  • Chill Overnight for Best Results: While 4 hours of chilling is the minimum, letting your Rose Tiramisu sit overnight in the fridge allows the flavors to meld together beautifully and the layers to set perfectly. It’s worth the wait!

  • Adjust the Rosewater to Your Taste: Rosewater can be quite strong, so it’s important to start with 2 teaspoons and taste the mixture. If you prefer a more subtle floral flavor, you can always use less, or if you love the fragrance, add a bit more.

  • Whip the Cream to Soft Peaks: When whipping the cream, be careful not to overwhip. Soft peaks are ideal for folding into the mascarpone, giving the tiramisu its light and airy texture without being too heavy or dense.

  • Use Fresh, High-Quality Ingredients: For the best flavor, make sure to use fresh mascarpone, heavy cream, and high-quality rosewater. These ingredients play a big part in the overall taste and texture of the dessert.

  • Garnish Just Before Serving: For a fresh look and to maintain the vibrancy of the rose petals, wait until just before serving to garnish with the edible rose petals, dried rosebuds, and powdered sugar. This will help them stay looking beautiful.

  • Make It Your Own: If you’re feeling adventurous, feel free to experiment with other floral extracts like lavender or orange blossom water for a unique twist. The key is to keep the balance of flavors light and subtle.

Perfect Pairings and Serving Ideas

  1. A Light, Crisp White Wine: A chilled glass of crisp white wine, such as Sauvignon Blanc or a light Prosecco, pairs beautifully with the floral notes of the tiramisu without overpowering it. The acidity of the wine helps balance the creaminess of the dessert.

  2. Fresh Berries: A handful of fresh berries like raspberries, strawberries, or blueberries would complement the rich and floral flavors of the tiramisu. Their tartness contrasts nicely with the sweet, creamy layers.

  3. Herbal Tea: For a non-alcoholic option, serve your Rose Tiramisu with a fragrant cup of herbal tea. Chamomile or a light green tea would be lovely, as their delicate flavors enhance the floral notes of the dessert.

  4. Coffee or Espresso: If you’re looking for a more traditional pairing, a rich cup of coffee or espresso is always a great match for tiramisu. The bitterness of the coffee complements the sweetness of the dessert while enhancing its depth.

Serving Ideas:

  1. Individual Servings: Serve your Rose Tiramisu in individual cups or glasses for a more refined presentation. This makes it feel extra special and also ensures each guest gets the perfect amount of dessert!

  2. Garnished with Fresh Flowers: To really showcase the floral theme, garnish each serving with a small edible rose petal or even a sprig of mint. This will add a pop of color and enhance the aesthetic of the dessert.

  3. Perfect for Special Occasions: This elegant dessert is ideal for a celebratory meal, whether it’s a birthday, anniversary, or a romantic dinner. You can also serve it as a luxurious finish to a multi-course meal.

  4. A Side of Whipped Cream or Ice Cream: If you’re looking to make the dessert even more indulgent, serve it with a dollop of freshly whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla or rose-flavored ice cream for added richness and texture.
