Quick & Creepy Ghost Strawberries for Your Halloween Table
Every year when Halloween rolls around, I love finding little ways to make my treats both spooky and sweet, and these Ghost Strawberries are one of my absolute favorites. They’re so simple to whip up, but they look like something you’d see on a Pinterest-perfect party table. I mean, who can resist a juicy strawberry dressed up as a cute little ghost? It’s the kind of recipe that makes everyone smile before they even take a bite.
What I really enjoy about these is how fast they come together. With just three ingredients, I can dip, decorate, and have a whole tray of ghostly goodies ready in no time. I’ve made them for family movie nights, school parties, and even as a fun surprise after dinner, and they always disappear quickly. Plus, the sparkle gel frosting for the eyes gives them just the right touch of personality, some end up looking spooky, some silly, and some downright adorable.
If you’re planning a Halloween spread, these strawberries fit right in alongside cupcakes, cookies, or bowls of candy. They add that pop of festive charm without requiring hours in the kitchen. I like to make a few extra because trust me, once they hit the table, they won’t stick around long. Whether you’re hosting a big party or just want to treat the kids, Ghost Strawberries are one of those little recipes that make Halloween feel extra magical.

Ingredients
-
3.5 oz Black Sparkle Gel Frosting – This is what I use to bring my little ghost faces to life with spooky eyes.
-
8 Strawberries – Fresh, juicy strawberries are the perfect base for these ghostly treats.
-
10 oz White Candy Melts – These melt down into the creamy coating that gives the strawberries their ghostly look.

Recipe Instructions
You can find a printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.
1. Microwave candy melts at 50% power (or on defrost) for 2 minutes. Stir, then continue heating in 1-minute intervals, stirring between each, until fully melted. Check the package for specific melting instructions, as they may vary.

2. Dip strawberries into the melted white candy, then use the excess to create a small swoop on parchment paper. Place the strawberry on top of the swoop to dry.

3. Once set, use black sparkle gel to draw eyes on each strawberry.

4. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Serving & Storing
-
I love serving these on a Halloween platter with other spooky treats, kids always reach for the ghosts first.
-
If I’m making them for a party, I’ll pop them in the fridge until it’s time to serve so they stay fresh and firm.
-
These taste best the same day you make them, since strawberries can get a little juicy if they sit too long.
-
If I do need to store them, I keep them in a single layer in an airtight container in the fridge and enjoy within 24 hours.
-
I’ve found they hold up well for a few hours on a party table, but I wouldn’t leave them out overnight.
Variations
-
Sometimes I give my ghosts different personalities by making some look surprised, some sleepy, and some extra spooky with their little frosting eyes.
-
Instead of sparkle gel, I’ve also used mini chocolate chips for the eyes, just press them in before the candy coating sets.
-
You can dip only half the strawberry if you want a “peek-a-boo ghost” effect that shows off the red underneath.
-
For a colorful twist, try using orange or green candy melts to make a whole crew of Halloween characters.
-
If you’re feeling extra creative, you can add little mouths or even drizzle on a tattered “sheet” look with more melted candy.

Substitutions
-
If I don’t have black sparkle gel on hand, I’ll just melt a few chocolate chips and use a toothpick to dot on the eyes.
-
White chocolate chips or almond bark work just as well as white candy melts for the ghostly coating.
-
You can even use vanilla yogurt coating if you want a lighter, less sweet option.
-
If strawberries aren’t looking great at the store, I’ve made these with raspberries or even grapes – tiny ghosts, but still adorable!
-
For a dairy-free version, just swap in vegan candy melts or dairy-free white chocolate.
FAQs
Can I make Ghost Strawberries ahead of time?
I usually make them the same day, since strawberries can get juicy, but they’ll stay fresh for up to 24 hours in the fridge.
Do I have to use candy melts?
Not at all! White chocolate chips, almond bark, or even yogurt coating will work just as well for that ghostly look.
How do I keep the coating from sliding off the strawberries?
Make sure your strawberries are completely dry before dipping, any water will make the candy melt slip right off.
Can kids help make these?
Absolutely! Little ones love dipping the strawberries and adding the eyes. Just be careful with the hot melted candy.
Do Ghost Strawberries need to stay refrigerated?
Yes, I like to keep them chilled so the coating stays firm and the strawberries stay fresh until serving.
