Aircraft
When it comes to building an aeroplane, the weight of the components is hugely important. Think about it, you wouldn’t want to travel on an aeroplane that struggled to take off due to it’s weight would you?!
Modern aircraft are built using Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) composites which are incredibly lightweight, making them the perfect material for the job. However, they are notoriously difficult to cut through. This is where the ultimate supermaterial comes into it’s own. Drill bits are coated with synthetic diamonds which can cut through the tough material like butter.

Healthcare
There are many uses for synthetic diamonds in the healthcare industry. They are often used in non-invasive surgical procedures where fibre optics are used to send out high powered, targeted laser beams into a patient. If you’ve ever had radiotherapy, then synthetic diamonds may well have been involved in the equipment used to treat you.

You may also be surprised to learn that synthetic diamonds might have been used to produce clean, high quality finish cuts to the furniture you own. Synthetic diamonds don’t just play a part in the interior finish of our homes. The exterior of our houses need to be made of extremely resistant materials that will withstand all kinds of batterings from the weather. Those materials are inevitably tough to cut through, and so yet again it’s the synthetic diamond, the ultimate supermaterial that steps in to do the job. Tools made with synthetic diamonds are able to cut through bricks, tiles and other extremely tough materials with ease – making our houses strong enough to withstand the elements.
