What to do when you need money fast

There are all kinds of reasons why you might suddenly need to get your hands on a large sum of money quickly. It could be that your car has broken down and you need it for work, or maybe your heating has packed in and it’s going to be an expensive fix. Whatever the reason, finding that money can be tricky, particularly if you’ve got a bad credit history. But, don’t despair, there are a few things you can do to get hold of the money you need to get things moving again.

Borrow

If you need a large amount of money in a hurry, then your best option may be to borrow the money.

You could try to borrow from a family member or a friend if possible. The main benefit of this is that you won’t be charged interest on the amount you borrow.

Alternatively, if all else fails, you could take out a loan from a financial institution. The better your credit score, the better your options and the less you’ll pay back in interest. But even if your credit history is really poor, there will usually be options available to you. Click here to find out more about bad credit loans.

Payment plans

Many large purchases are available to be repaid using a payment plan. This means that you can spread out the cost and pay a smaller amount towards the total each month. If you have a good credit score, then you might be able to get an interest free payment plan, but often you will pay interest meaning that the total amount you pay back will be more than you initially borrowed. Still, it can be a good option for those who don’t have the money up front but can afford the monthly repayments.

Sell, sell, sell

You’d be surprised at how much stuff you have in your home that could make you money. It could be old toys the kids no longer play with, old technology you’ve replaced and no longer need, or all that stuff you’ve got stashed away in the attic.

Think about selling what you can on local sale sites, Facebook is a great place to start. You can also use eBay to sell lots of secondhand items as well as Vinted for secondhand clothes.

Make extra money

If you have the time to make more money rather than take out a loan, then either taking on a second job or doing a side hustle in your spare time is a great way to bring in extra cash.

There are all kinds of different things you can do to make money depending on the amount of free time you have. You could build on existing hobbies such as crafting and start to sell your creations online through sites such as Etsy.

You could also try things like mystery shopping, babysitting, pet sitting or even washing cars to bring in some well-needed extra money.
