Why you should never cut costs when it comes to dental care

I’m regularly talking about ways to save money and avoid unnecessary spending. But, one of the areas I would never cut costs is my teeth. I’ve always been really careful about taking care of my teeth and I always make sure I put money aside in case I need any unexpected dental treatment.

Your teeth are one of the very first things that people notice about you. They’re visible when you smile, when you talk and when you eat, so they are on show a lot! Poor dental hygiene can be a huge barrier when it comes to socialising, meeting new people and even applying for a new job. It really is that important!

In the UK, we are very fortunate to have dental care available to us on the NHS, but many of us do still have to pay for treatment. Free dental care is only actually available for certain people:

If you don’t fall into one of these categories then you have to pay for any checkups and dental treatment. Whilst the NHS do have a cap on how much you can be expected to pay, dental bills can still tally up to hundreds of pounds, particularly if you need treatment such as crowns.

Many people prefer to use a private dental practice. They feel that as they have to pay anyway, they may as well receive treatment in a more luxurious environment and get a more personalised service. There is also often an issue with NHS dentists not taking on new patients or having really long waiting lists for treatments. Going to a private practice often means you can be seen more quickly.

As well as offering routine checkups and treatment, many private practices offer more cosmetic treatments too. In my opinion, your smile is incredibly important – and as I mentioned, it’s one of the first things people will notice about you. First impressions are really important! Cosmetic treatments often include services such as teeth reshaping, teeth whitening and veneers. These kinds of treatments can have a hugely positive effect on both your physical appearance and your mental wellbeing. Many people have personal hang ups about the way they look when they smile, and cosmetic treatments can make you feel more confident, allow you to smile more and generally give off a better first impression.

If you have any concerns about your teeth, then it’s worth investing in private treatment in order to regain some self confidence. You may find you smile more and generally give off a more positive vibe – who wouldn’t want that?!
