Why you shouldn’t scrimp on your bed

Although I’m a money-saving blogger, there are certain things where I think it’s important to look for quality rather than price. One of those is your bed. That doesn’t mean that I’m suggesting you go out and look for the most expensive bed you can find. But I do think you should focus on finding a quality bed that suits your budget.
There are a number of reasons why it’s important to choose a quality bed and mattress that suits your budget rather than opting for the cheapest one you can find.
Sleep and your wellbeing
Sleep is incredibly important, both for our physical and our mental wellbeing. Without a decent sleep, it’s hard for us to stay focused, be alert and enjoy our lives. Whenever I have bouts of insomnia, I feel sluggish, I lack motivation and I can be incredibly grumpy. It makes me feel physically unwell causing headaches and even sickness. I also find that I’m less sociable when I’m tired and I generally feel miserable!
Poor sleep can sometimes be attributed to a poor mattress, so it’s important to make sure that you choose one that feels comfortable and supports your body in all the right places. There are lots of options available these days, take a look at some of these beds in Wigan for example. If you are comfortable in bed, then you have a far better chance of drifting off to sleep and sleeping soundly through the night.
Different stages of sleep
When we sleep, we go through different stages of sleep – each one is just as important as the next. Generally, these stages are known as:
- Light sleep
- Rapid Eye Movement (REM)
- Deep sleep
We need to get a certain amount of each stage so that we feel rested and rejuvenated to face the day ahead. A good bed will help to ensure a good quality of sleep for each of these stages.
Physical aches and pains
You know how it feels if you’ve ever spent the night on someone’s sofa. You wake up feeling uncomfortable with aches and pains that you struggle to shake off. If you don’t have a quality bed and mattress, then you can suffer those aches and pains every single day. It’s just not worth it! A little research into the type of bed that would suit you can make a real difference.
As well as your bed, it’s important to make sure you get good quality pillows too. You need to make sure that you maintain a good posture when you’re sleeping so that you don’t cause yourself any discomfort. You can buy different pillows depending on whether you’re a front, back or side sleeper that help to support your neck in different positions. A comfortable, supportive bed and pillows mean that you shouldn’t wake up with aches and pains.
So, whilst I would never suggest that you go out and spend what you can’t afford, I do think it’s important to look for a good quality bed. This might mean that you need to spend a little longer saving up, but a good bed is a long term investment. You can’t put a price on a good nights sleep.
