Why your choice of packaging really matters
If you’re running a business selling any type of product, then your choice of packaging needs some really careful consideration. Of course, the product you’re selling is always going to be your very first priority, but how you package it needs just as much attention before you take it to market.
Your packaging is the first thing the customer sees
When your potential customers are browsing products, the packaging is often the very first thing they will see. Whether they are shopping online, or actually physically browsing the shelves in the supermarket, the way your product is packaged is what they’re going to see first. Often, your product will be up against at least some competition, so you need to make sure that your product isn’t going to be overlooked and overshadowed by your competitors.
Make it eye catching
Because you want to make sure your product grabs the attention of potential customers, you need to make sure that your brand stands out. You might want to choose bold and eye catching colours, or maybe you’ll opt for an unusual font, but make sure that your branding and your chosen colours work well for your particular product.
Think about the environmental impact
One of the big things that you need to think about is how environmentally friendly your packaging is. There’s a big call at the moment for reducing the amount of plastic we use, but some products will always work best in plastic bottles. For example, if you’re selling items such as shampoo, shower gel, or even many types of drink, then realistically you’re going to need to use plastic for your packaging. Just ensure that the plastic you use can be recycled and make this clear on your packaging.

If you can reduce the amount of plastic you use in your packaging, then that’s a great way to help to keep our environment healthy and it will attract customers who care about the impact the way they shop has on the planet. If your products are often bought online and shipped to your customers, then you could think about using paper to wrap and protect items rather than using plastic bubble wrap.
Packaging to protect your products
When you’ve spent a lot of time and money getting your product just right, then you don’t want it to get damaged in transit! Many people shop online these days, so your products will need to be shipped or posted out to them. Packaging carefully means that your products are less likely to be damaged in transit which can lead to costly replacements and unhappy customers!
If you’re running a business, then time is always precious, but spending some time working on your packaging is really important. Not only does your packaging help to keep your product safe, but it’s also the very first thing that customers see, so it’s important to get it right.
