We can spend a lot of time and effort trying to teach our child the valuable lessons that come with investing in their development. We place considerable importance on education and ensuring they look after themselves. But we don’t always take this advice ourselves. We tell our children to eat healthily and to go to their PE lesson rather than sitting on the side, but we don’t do it either. In a financial sense, we have to invest in our family but we also have to make sure we invest in ourselves. While there are things that we can do in life, such as set goals and make changes to our frame of mind, in terms of the financial components of investing in ourselves, what are the best things we can do?

Investing in Our Education

So many of us believe that we are done with school as soon as we leave it. But those that have children that are starting school or have been in education for a while know fully well the flood of emotions that can come flooding back. But it can also leave us feeling a little bit out of our depth, especially when we have to teach our children things we think the school should be doing. We want to be able to help with our children’s homework, but this means we have got to invest in our knowledge. As such, we have to make sure that we educate ourselves with the right things, not just the right books or educational tools, but we also need to make sure we see better, hear better, and generally function at our best. But in terms of education, what are the best resources?

Books are the best place to begin. You may think that you don’t have time to read books at the end of the day, but what do you do instead? We spend time on social media or watching a documentary on Netflix, but we can very easily take a side step from this into podcasts or audiobooks. Audible does a subscription service, and when you start to think about the fact that listening to a book is far quicker than reading it, you are making the most of your time, especially when you have to help your children with their homework late into the night.

Investing in Our Health

One of the biggest problems many people have in terms of their health is they feel it is an expensive practice. When you start to look at health foods or the cost of organic vegetables, it’s hardly a surprise that people feel health is something only for people who have a lot of zeros in their bank account. There are things that we can do to invest in our health and they can be cheap. A very good example is choosing to make meals over getting quick microwave meals. While we feel we don’t have the time, especially when we have busy family lives and the quick alternative makes everything easier but we have to look at how much it costs per portion. Compare a microwave meal in comparison to a meal that you made yourself and you will see the difference. Naturally, the meal you’ve made yourself is cheaper but making time is the difficult part. But this is where batch cooking meals becomes a lifesaver. You can very easily make casseroles in a slow cooker and leave it to its own devices all day if you go out to work. You can portion up what you don’t eat and freeze it, and you’ve got enough meals to last for a few you nights or use them as lunches the next day.

Investing in our health can seem expensive especially when you look at the cost of supplements but because these are big investments up front, a lot of people tend to stay away from things that can benefit them. And while there are plenty of resources that will tell you that you need to take so many types of vitamins, the most important ones are, arguably, Vitamin D and Omega-3. Having Vitamin D in your life can help you recover from illness quicker but will also make you feel healthier in many ways. It appears that many people have low levels of Vitamin D and by taking a Vitamin D supplement, especially during the winter months, can help make you feel so much better so you are able to function at your optimum. The great thing about investing in your health is when you feel the benefits and you then go back to your old habits you realise just how important it is to invest in your health. Take a look at a private label vitamins manufacturer to see what’s available.

Investing in Our Sleep

As simple as it is, sleep is probably the most important thing we can do for ourselves. Sleeping off the multitude of ailments or having a nap can help your mind and body process so many things. The very act of sleeping properly seems to have fallen by the wayside for so many of us. But while investing in your sleep may seem expensive, especially if you need to get a good quality bed or mattress, there are things you can do to help you rest better. A very good example is a meditation machine. Far from it being some “hocus pocus” device that puts you into some trance, it is something that has had a major positive impact on people’s abilities to sleep. People have noticed their quality of sleep improved significantly since starting it.

When you invest in your sleep by removing devices from the bedroom and focusing on the act of getting quality sleep which can also be yielded by supplements such as magnesium, you feel better during the daytime. Better sleep means you will have a better life

Invest in Experiences

In a financial sense, we place a lot of importance on things. Material products are beneficial in many ways, but if we really want to invest in ourselves so we can improve our lives we have to invest in experiences rather than gifts. When you have a family that want certain things for Christmas and you feel the pressure to deplete your credit cards so they have a happy Christmas, the fact is that this happiness doesn’t last, not to mention you may feel pressure to get better gifts next year. If we want to invest in ourselves as well as the ones we care about, experiences that bring you together as a family are crucial. This means looking at the things you want to achieve in life.

Travel broadens the mind of course, but it can be expensive to go to other countries. But can you find a suitable balance? Quality family time away on a staycation can help bring you all together, especially if you make sure that devices are tucked away for the short-term. But also think about where you can all go to get a good experience that will benefit your lives and help you learn something. While children don’t like the idea of learning things, if we choose to head somewhere that has a wide variety of experiences, we will all benefit.

Are You Ready to Invest in Life?

It’s amazing how many people think that they need to invest in things that do not benefit them in the long run. People think that investing in their health is not worth it because they are still up and about. But the important thing when it comes to investing in your life is concerned is to look at the results it can bring. Whether you need to invest in your education so you can help your children with their homework or you can improve your knowledge in subtle ways, this will help you feel you’ve achieved something.

If you look at your health and think it could be better by investing in a better diet or the right supplements or investing in your sleep so you can function at your optimum, these are things that will make you feel better across the board. But also, when you invest in experiences, you start to learn about things beyond your remit. These four pillars of our lives can enrich us in so many ways. But many people feel that they cannot invest in these things. We’ve all got problems with money and it seems that good quality of life is only for those that have a substantial paycheck. But if we took a good look at our lives and started to get rid of the things that didn’t add anything to our existence and replace these things with investing in our education, our health, our sleep, and in experiences, this will more than make up for any material item that provides a short dose of happiness.

If we want to be happier in our lives or we want to be more intelligent we have to remember it requires some form of investment. For most people, it’s about investing time but if we really want to benefit our lives now and decades in the future, we may have to think about putting some money aside.
