4 Ways To Lockdown-Proof Holidays During COVID-19

There’s not much you can do about a worldwide pandemic that has caused countries to close their borders on the face of things. On top of this, a second spike looks as if it’s about to take the one thing Brits had to hold onto – staycations!
It’s enough to make you mad and anxious at the same time. However, losing your cool never helped anyone, especially travellers desperate to indulge in their favourite hobby. So, you’ll be glad to hear there are ways to lockdown-proof your holidays… sort of! Anything can happen, yet these tips could help you to see a bit more of the country when you need it the most.
Stick To Two
The new tiers make things very complicated. Can you go into a different tier? Are you allowed to stay over? In truth, it seems as if nobody knows the answers! With that in mind, it’s best to stick to the basics and keep your party to two people who live in the same house. That way, you’re not breaking any rules if you turn up at a hotel. Plus, you and your significant other can spend some well-deserved quality time together, which is never a bad thing after seven months of isolation!
Plan A Road Trip
Not only are cars more dependable than planes and trains at the moment, but they are more flexible. When you book a flight, it could get cancelled at the last minute, and if it isn’t, you’re stuck in a destination where the rules might change overnight. You can plan multiple locations based on the tier system to avoid COVID hot spots on a road trip. Plus, if the worst happens, you can hop in the car and drive away. All you need to remember is to invest in wheel repair services before you travel as the weather is changing and safety is a priority. After that, all you need are snacks and tunes!
Book Insurance
It doesn’t matter how cheap the room is or whether you don’t care if the trip gets cancelled – insurance post-COVID is imperative. Most insurers won’t include it, so you should check your policy beforehand. And, if you struggle to add it on without increasing the cost of your coverage, there are ways around it for staycations. For example, hotels often include different tiers, the cheapest being without insurance. However, the gap isn’t extortionate. Currently, a tenner for accommodation coverage is a bargain!
Stay In Your County
Local lockdowns are done by area. That means, while your region could change, another might stay the same, and vice versa. Therefore, there’s lots of unpredictability surrounding the travel and tourism sectors since the rules could change instantly. By staying in your county, you give yourself the best chance of enjoying an uninterrupted holiday. After all, it would have to be in tier 3 to cut it short, whereas tier 2 restricts overnight stays for anybody outside of the region.
Lockdown-proving a holiday is challenging right now, but hopefully these tips make it manageable!
