SEO is a vital part of any marketing strategy for any business that wants to stake it’s place online. It might not feel like a priority when you’re juggling everything involved in building up a business, but SEO is actually really important if you want to stand any chance of being found online by potential customers.
A successful SEO strategy means that you’ll stand out from the crowd and appear high up on search results – this is really important for any business that wants to make a success of it in the digital world of today.
But with every other business also battling to appear high up in search engines, what can you do to push your business to the top?
With the help of Click Consult, I’ve put together these 5 SEO tips that will improve your marketing strategy and help to improve the online visibility of your business.

1. Show your expertise, authority & trustworthiness
As much as we all know we’re constantly battling against various unknown algorithms, Google does actually have a huge team of human beings rating websites. They’re checking to see whether content is good or spammy. Good, relevant content will always rank well whereas spam content won’t rank at all. Feedback from these Google raters is used by the tech team to alter the algorithms to ensure that it’s always high quality content that ranks highest.
As well as rating the content, Google raters also look at the quality and authority of the author. This is why it’s really important to have a detailed “About” page where you share the expertise, authority and trustworthiness of your author(s).
2. The importance of off-page content
You need to make sure that you have an authority in your niche in various places online. Not only will Google raters research you on your actual website, they will also search online to find out more about you.
Having relevant social media channels helps to boost your profile. Make sure that the content you share is relevant and that it can’t be conceived as being spammy.
3. Gain high authority back-links
In order to increase the authority of your website, it’s a good idea to get some back-links from high authority sites. But you do need to be a little careful with this.
Make sure that any sites you gain a link from are relevant and that they themselves have high quality content. Getting a back-link from a spammy site won’t do your site any favours.
You also need to be wary of paying for back-links as this could result in you being penalised by Google.
4. Make sure you are what you say you are
Don’t be misleading. Google is really clamping down on sites that pertain to be one thing but are actually another. For example, a site that tries to rank on Google as an information site but is actually an advertising site will not rank. You need to make sure that your readers know exactly what they’re getting, and Google is clear on exactly what your visitors will see when they click through to your site.
5. Optimise your images
Images are one of the things that many businesses don’t think about when they’re publishing content online.
Google is rolling out the ability to search for images on mobile, so if you’re not already clear on what you should be doing, then now is the time to learn.
Make sure that you choose images that are relevant to your article, upload them in a size that works well with your site and name them appropriately. You MUST also make sure that you add relevant alt text to your image too. This ensures that if somebody can’t actually see the image, they can see the text describing what the image shows. Adding alt text helps to ensure that your images rank on Google so it’s really important to get this right.
Whilst SEO might not be the most exciting activity in the world, it is crucial to put some time into getting SEO right. It quickly becomes second nature and it doesn’t need to be complicated. But a good SEO strategy can make a huge difference to any business.
