Mrs Crunch’s Website of the Week!
I’m absolutely thrilled to have featured as “Website of the Week” in Mrs Crunch’s section in The Sun newspaper this week! If you’re not familiar with Mrs Crunch, her section provides readers with weekly hints and tips on how to save money and stretch your finances further. It’s an absolute honour to have been featured!
Mrs Crunch’s Website of the Week!
In case you missed it, here’s the feature!

Some of you will already be familiar with how I first got to be so determined to make extra money – but those times when both myself and my husband were out of work will never leave me. We already had a toddler (who’s now almost 12) and a baby on the way, it wasn’t a fun time! With a mortgage to pay and Christmas on the horizon, I knew that we had to do something drastic.
My Money Cottage wasn’t actually “born” until late 2016 – in many ways I wish I’d started it sooner! I’ve learnt a lot over the last 10 years or so, and I hope you’ll find some of it useful too.
Now, with three children, aged 2, 8 and 11 as I write this, I work part-time from home and still do lots of side hustles too.
My top money tips:
- You need a side hustle. Hardly any families can rely on just one income stream any more, or even two – so make sure you find a way to make extra money. I do lots of side hustles but if you only have time for one, pick something you enjoy. It might be mystery shopping, reselling second-hand goods, running an Etsy shop…the list is endless.
- Make a meal plan and never deviate from it. We’ve saved a fortune just by planning ahead each week. Write out the meals you’re going to have, then use that to create a shopping list. Stick to that list and you will save.
- It may seem simple but know your budget. So many people get into debt as they haven’t worked it out. Take an hour or two to assess income against outgoings as it will inform everything else you do.
I have so many tips on saving money and making extra cash, it wouldn’t have been possible to cram them all into one article, that’s why I love sharing things on my blog and social media channels. If you aren’t already following me on social media, then I’d love to see you! You can find me on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
I’m also a huge bargain hunter, and I’ve set up a Facebook group here to share my best finds too!
