Elf on the Shelf.
It’s that time of the year again. December has landed full force in our house with my daughter counting down from the end of October. She hasn’t been counting down to Christmas though, she’s been counting the days until Eddie was due to return.
Eddie is our Elf on the Shelf. He arrived with us on 2nd December 2015, so this is only his second Christmas with us. If you have children and you haven’t already got an elf, I’d highly recommend doing it! You can find them here. There are loads of different options. We got the one with the book – Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition. The book tells the story of the elf and there is a section to fill in with your elf’s name and date of arrival. My daughter loved looking back on this.
Elf on the Shelf is a craze that has really swept the nation over the last few years. There are many different rules involved with the elf during his stay. Different families place their own rules and there seems to be great variation. Our elf cannot be touched as if he’s handled he can lose his magical powers. Now we have a toddler, Eddie the elf likes to stay in high places!

Eddie arrived on 1st December. He was sat on the landing window with a gingerbread house and a note which read “Hurry home from school so we can make this, Eddie x”. My daughter was jumping around the house with absolute pure joy. There is not a smidgen of doubt in her mind that Eddie is a real elf, it’s just magical.
Every night, Eddie travels back to the North Pole to be with Santa. Then he magically reappears before we wake up. He’ll always be in a different place each morning. Some mornings he has been up to mischief and we must have caught him in the act. So far this year he’s been fairly good!
There are all sorts of ideas online for elf antics. You can make snow angels in flour, have them covered in chocolate. One idea I do love and will definitely try out this year, is the elf settles himself in a plastic jar with a note saying something like “I’ve settled myself in here so that you can carry me around today. I’d like to spend some time with you”. I think that’s such a lovely idea and I know she’ll love that.
I’d love to hear what your elves have been getting up to so far!

I love elf on the shelf. Our daughter is only 8 months old so we’ve not done it this year, however, I can’t wait and love seeing other people doing it.
We only started it last year when our middle child was 6, really wish we’d done it sooner. Our youngest is 20 months and still too young though. Hopefully I’ll have more to share over the next few weeks. It’s such a magical time with children.
I’ve seen these little guys all over Facebook, but have never actually seen them in a store so I feel like I’ve been missing out! Never thought to look on Amazon though. I’m sure I’m not too old to get one of these, even though I have no children… I can see why your daughter loves Eddie. x
