Boots points value – how much are your points really worth?

Many big chain shops have loyalty card systems, and if you’re going to shop there, then it always makes sense to be a part of any loyalty scheme on offer. In this post we’ll take a look specifically at the Boots Advantage card and find out the Boots points value and how to make the most of your points.

What is the Boots Advantage Card?

Boots launched their Advantage Card scheme way back in 1997 so it’s been around for quite a while!

Every time you make a purchase either in-store, online or via the Boots app, you earn 4 points for every £1 you spend. Keep in though that you don’t earn any points at all on infant milk, prescriptions, stamps, gift vouchers and mobile phone top-ups.

The best ways to collect and spend your points

Collecting points

For most items, you will receive four points for every £1 you spend. You can use this handy Boots Advantage Card calculator to work out how many points you will earn on eligible purchases.

As well as collecting the usual 4 points for every £1 spent, there are also a couple of different clubs you can join which offer more points per pound for qualifying purchases. You can either sign up to these when you first apply for your card, or you can choose which club you’d like to join within the Boots Advantage App or online within the My Account section when you’re logged in.

Boots Parenting Club

When you join the parenting club, you will receive 8 points per £1 spent on qualifying purchases. Qualifying items are those in the baby products section so perfect for expectant parents looking to buy all the essentials for their new arrival.

Over 60s Rewards

As with the Parenting Club, if you join the Over 60s Rewards Club, you will earn 8 points for every £1 spent on qualifying purchases instead of the usual 4 points per £1.

For the Over 60s Club, double points are available on Boots branded products and various other selected brands too. At the time of writing, this includes:

  • No.7
  • Liz Earle
  • Joules
  • Champneys
  • Soltan
  • Soap & Glory
  • Botanics

Spending your points

You can use your points to pay for purchases but you cannot split the total between cash and points. You must have enough points to pay for your purchase in full. I always like to save my points up to use at Christmas when Boots often have their 3 for 2 deals on various gift items.

One advantage card point is equal to 1p. So, 1000 points is equal to £10.

How to earn more points

You can also earn Boots points when you use Boots Opticians or Boots Hearingcare. You can earn 1 point per £1 here.

You can also earn extra points by using the Boots Recycling Scheme. All you have to do is take your empty beauty, health, wellness and dental products that can’t be recycled at home. When you return five empty bottles and spend £10 in-store, you’ll receive an extra 250 Boots Advantage points.

Advantage card points boost

Boots regularly offer points boosts throughout the year including their popular triple points events or receive extra points when you spend over a certain amount. They also have points boost offers for their club members too so it’s worth keeping an eye out.

Do Boots Advantage points expire?

As of June 2022, any unused Boots Advantage points will expire after one year if they aren’t used. If you save them up throughout the year to use at Christmas then this can be a great way to get them used up before they expire.

How to join the Advantage Card scheme

There are a few different ways to sign up to the loyalty card scheme. You can pick up a card in Boots shops, or you can apply online or via the Boots App.

The Boots App

It can be a real pain carrying all of your loyalty cards around with you, particularly if you don’t tend to shop in-store all that often, I’m forever forgetting to take all my cards out with me. As with many loyalty schemes including Tesco and Lidl, Boots now allow you to use their App to scan your Advantage Card which is really handy as most of us always have our phones on us.

You can also use the App to access your personalised offers and keep an eye out for points boosts.

Personalised Offers

When you use your Boots Advantage Card, Boots track your purchases so that they can bring you personalised offers.

Boots also have Price Advantage offers where loyalty card holders can get exclusive discounts when they present their card.

In my opinion, whenever you’re offered a free loyalty card, it’s worth taking up. It doesn’t cost you anything and you can earn money off your future purchases, what’s not to love?
