How to make a beautiful home without breaking the bank on renovations
Many of us have a very clear vision of our dream home, however, for some it may seem out of reach due to financial restraints.
Now, we might not be able to help you secure a 12-bedroom palace on the French Riviera for buttons! But some other dreams might be a little more attainable when thinking outside the box.
By making a few clever decisions and swaps you might be able to create a beautiful house to call your own – without the need for expensive remodelling or renovating.
Pick a beautiful location
The changing landscape of working patterns for many of us means that where we live doesn’t have to necessarily be tightly tied to where we work. Although we are now largely familiar with living once again without COVID-19 restrictions, working from home has remained in place for many with many of us choosing to utilise home office furniture to create a work sanctum away from the chaos of home life.
So this might open up your options to pick a beautiful location to live – immediately giving your home a more glamorous touch. And an eye-catching locale doesn’t have to come with a big price tag.
Home interiors experts Hammonds looked into the most beautiful spots to live in the UK with low price tags and Margate in Kent came out on top, with a stunning coastal backdrop made all the more sweet as average house prices in the town are 25 per cent cheaper than the national average.
Famous for its Abbey and the 199 steps, Whitby in North Yorkshire is another great option for those looking for beauty on a budget. It places 4th in the list of most affordable and boasts a whopping 1.2 million tags on Instagram so there’ll be plenty of picturesque moments to share. If you’re thinking of relocating to Wales then the village of Portmeirion might be for you, with homes coming in at £100K less than the UK average whilst still having all the idyllic beauty you could dream of.
Upcycle vintage items
Vintage items are great additions to homes as their timeless style never goes out of fashion. With a bit of tender loving care, you might be able to bring something back to former glories.
A great tip is to browse charity shops, car boot sales and the likes in better-off areas. You might be able to find some great hidden gems in these spots to make your own in your home.
If you’re upcycling things like soft furnishings, be wary and always check out some guidance so that you don’t spoil it while you’re trying to bring it back to life.
Catch the DIY bug
According to a recent report, painting and garden landscaping were the most popular renovations that people paid for in 2021.
Not far off the top spot were tiling and new wooden flooring.
These are all jobs that with a little know-how and a lot of confidence you can tackle on your own and get a good result from.
What’s more, you will always have the sweet sense of satisfaction that you along were the one responsible for making your home as beautiful as can be!
