Is HealthyWage UK a Scam?

HealthyWage UK has been talked about for a while now in the money-making world, and I’ve recently been asked about it in my Facebook group too. I wanted to take a closer look and see what all the fuss is about, and get to the bottom of whether or not HealthWage UK is a scam or a legit opportunity.

What is HealthyWage UK?

In case you haven’t heard of it, HealthyWage is a health and wellness company that originated in the USA back in 2009. It was originally set up by two former healthcare consultants who recognised the importance of a healthy weight for overall wellbeing.

HealthyWage offer financial incentives to encourage weight loss – if you’re anything like me then this sounds pretty amazing! I’m all about making extra money and constantly battling to keep my weight under control, so it does sound like a pretty good deal at first glance! Money can be a really big motivator, and it can be such a long and hard battle to lose weight that we often need some kind of added incentive to reach our goal.

HealthyWage launched in the UK a little while ago, and us Brits tend to be sceptical of these kind of things!

How does HealthyWage work?

The idea is that you place a bet on how much weight you can lose in a given amount of time.

When you first head over to the HealthyWage UK website, you’re asked to enter how much weight you intend to lose, over what time period, and how much money you want to bet each month. These figures were auto-filled in:

Now, betting £50 a month is A LOT of money to gamble away, so that instantly sent warning signals. Remember, this is a gamble and you are not guaranteed to make any money or get your money back!

After answering a lot of questions about myself and then being forced to give my email address, I was given my prize amount.

Remember that this is based on betting £50/month over 9 months which is a total of £450 to layout.

Is HealthyWage UK a Scam?

The reality is that HealthyWage UK is not a scam. If you meet your goal, then you will be paid out.

BUT it is a gamble, and I’m dead against gambling – it’s a surefire way to lose money fast!

Yes, you can be incredibly committed to losing weight with the added incentive of making money from reaching your target. BUT you simply cannot predict how much weight you will lose in any given period of time! Most people start off by losing a big chunk of weight in their first week and then it slows right down. Often, we plateau for a while too, not losing any weight at all for a while before the weight slowly starts to drop off again.

It’s NOT possible to be able to predict that you will successfully be able to lose 15kg in 9 months (or whatever your target is).

The other thing that really worries me is that this kind of betting could lead to all kinds of issues with eating and exercise. Healthy weight loss is all about changing your lifestyle and the weight should come off slowly and steadily. I think there’s a real danger here that people could be tempted to go onto drastic diets which could be incredibly harmful in the longrun.

Can you cheat the system?

I  guess some people might be thinking that they can simply lie at the end of the challenge and say they’ve lost a certain amount of weight when they actually haven’t.

HealthyWage have come up with a way to make this cheat-proof.

When you first register with HealthyWage, you will be required to prove your initial weight. There are a couple of ways you can do this. You can either download the HealthyWage app and allow one of their referees to witness your weigh in. Or, you can upload a video. You will need to do this both at the beginning and at the end of your weight loss time period, so there’s no way to cheat the system.

Verdict

Is HealthyWage UK a scam? The simple answer is, no. It’s a legitimate company that’s been trading for over 10 years and the reviews prove that they do pay out.

BUT, gambling is just that. You are risking your money on something that you cannot control 100%, so there’s NO GUARANTEE that you will make money. Even if you do succeed and lose weight, you may not hit your goal and that £450 or whatever you wagered is gone forever.
