One of the best ways to make some easy extra cash on the side is to sell on your old stuff. There are lots of ways you can do this, but the quickest and easiest way is to list your items online.
Preloved is one of the biggest online platforms for selling second-hand items. Listing items is quick and simple and importantly, free of charge.
Why sell your stuff?
As the old saying goes, “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure.” We’re all guilty of keeping hold of things “just in case” but there are some things that we really need to shift. We have a garage full of stuff at the moment that I know we’ll never use again and I’ve vowed to shift some of it in September. There’s a highchair and lots of other bits and pieces that we’ll just never need again.
All these things are just sitting around gathering dust when they could be being used by someone else. Lots of people like to buy good quality second-hand items and there’s a really big market for second-hand products. The main draw is inevitably the reduced price. Lots of people who would struggle or are reluctant to fork out full price for items are really happy to bag themselves a bargain on second-hand products. It’s a win-win situation! You get to make a bit of cash and the buyer gets a bargain – fab!
Why use Preloved?
Preloved offer a great alternative to auction sites which can charge high fees to sell your stuff. Preloved has been around since 1998 and has become a well-known face on the re-selling scene. There are now over 6 million registered members in the UK and Ireland meaning that any items you list will be seen by a large number of potential buyers.
It’s free to sell things on Preloved – no listing fees & no selling fees! Classified adverts are a great way to showcase items to potential buyers.
No auctions – you can set the amount you want and all items are listed by location making it easy for your potential buyers to find you.
Easy to use
Preloved is really simple to use. The signing up process is hassle free and it’s super easy to list an item once you’ve registered.
Simply click on the “Place Ad” button on the top right hand side of the screen, and then select “Place a Private Ad:
It’s then simply a case of following the straight-forward instructions to get your item listed in minutes. You’ll need to select a category, add a photo (you can list without but items are much more likely to attract interest if buyers can see a photo), choose a title, write a brief description and give your item a price. That’s it, job done!
Pricing your items
It can be tricky to price secondhand items. You need to be realistic, they’re not going to achieve the price you paid when they were brand new, however you also need to ensure that you don’t undersell too.
I usually do a little research into how much similar items sell for. I tend to use ebay to do this. I search for the item I’m selling and scan through all of the items listed on ebay to get a guage for an average price.
I’m planning on upping my game this month in a bid to boost our finances after some big unexpected expenses made a dent in our emergency fund. I need to organise what I think will sell and crack on and get it listed!
I’d love to hear your experiences of selling on Preloved – please leave me a comment below!
