Space for change: semi-permanent ideas for your home
When you want to keep costs down, or don’t want to deal with extensive decorating, it can be a good idea to think about other ways that you can change the look and feel of your home. To do so, you may want to consider getting a bit creative yourself. This can help to transform a space, as well as the items held in it. Many people now want to stick to a tighter budget, but that doesn’t mean you can’t also imbue a bit of luxury into your home.
Use light strips
Installing new lights, and their accompanying wires, can be rather costly. Not only would you need to choose the fixtures and fittings, but you may then need to pay for an electrician to complete the work to a high standard to ensure it is safe. Rather than spending time saving up for this, there are other solutions available to you. By buying a 20 meter RGB LED strip, you could position this around the room to give you additional light. This may be especially great for a study or gaming room. Likewise, your children may love the RGB aspect, allowing them to change the colours as they see fit.
Create a fake window
Some areas of your home, such as bathrooms or hallways, may lack windows. While this can allow for more utilities within a home, especially if space is limited, it can leave these areas feeling rather dark and cramped, even during the day. A non-permanent solution can be to create the illusion of a window. One of the simplest ways of achieving this can be by hanging a large mirror within the space. You may want to check what the wall is made of before doing so, to allow you to choose the correct brackets, screws, and tools for the job. This mirror can then reflect more light, making it feel far bigger than before.
Consider your furnishings
Changes don’t need to occur throughout the entire room. Sometimes, smaller adaptations can have a big effect. If you want to change the colour scheme in a room, or your current furnishings are damaged or outdated, you may have thought about buying new ones. This can be incredibly costly, depending on the item. However, you could also think about ways that they can be changed. Making your own sofa cushions, or even covers, could breathe new life into your seating. These can then be removed, either to be washed or even replaced again, giving you more freedom of choice.
Making non-permanent changes to your home can help to give you a bit more flexibility while still keeping those costs down. You may want to think about the current issues you have, and whether a semi-permanent solution could be the answer. This could also be especially useful for those who rent their property, and would need to return things back to the way they were at the end of a tenancy.
