Stir Up Some Fun with These Creepy-Cute Cauldron Cake Pops

Every Halloween, I love getting a little crafty in the kitchen, and these creepy-cute Cauldron Cake Pops might just be my new favorite creation. They’ve got all the magic of a bubbling witch’s brew, but in bite-sized, chocolatey form. A cauldron filled with “green slime” frosting, sparkly sprinkles, and candy eyeballs staring back at you is pure Halloween fun. The best part is, they’re just as fun to make as they are to eat — perfect for a spooky movie night, a classroom treat, or a Halloween party centerpiece.

I first made these on a whim when I had some leftover cake and a bit of frosting hanging around. One thing led to another, and before I knew it, I had a whole batch of little cauldrons ready to “bubble” away on the counter. The black candy coating makes them look so realistic, and the bright green frosting on top really makes them pop. The kids couldn’t get enough of decorating them, and honestly, I think half the fun was watching their faces light up as they created their own creepy cauldron concoctions.

If you’ve ever made cake pops before, you’ll find these super easy to whip up — and if you haven’t, don’t worry! They’re surprisingly forgiving, and a little “mess” just makes them look more authentic. Make them for trick-or-treaters, for a fun weekend baking project, or just because you’re in the Halloween spirit. These Cauldron Cake Pops are guaranteed to bring a little magic (and a lot of sweetness) to your celebrations.

Ingredients

  • Fully baked 9×13 cake (approximately 16oz, 454g), any flavour – The base of your cauldrons, ready to crumble and shape into spooky little pops.

  • 1/2 cup (2.4oz, 70g) vanilla frosting, divided – Helps bind the cake together and creates the “bubbling brew” on top.

  • 2 cups (12oz, 350g) black candy melts – Gives each pop its dark, cauldron-like shell.

  • 1/4 teaspoon green food coloring – Transforms frosting into the perfect eerie potion green.

  • 3 tablespoons green sprinkles – Adds sparkle and texture to your bubbling brew.

  • 2 tablespoons candy eyeballs – The creepy finishing touch that makes your cauldrons come alive.

Recipe Instructions

You can find a printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.

1. Crumble the cake into a large bowl until pieces are no larger than small peas. Mix in 1/4 cup frosting until it forms a moldable dough (moist but not mushy). Reserve remaining frosting.

2. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Shape dough into 1-inch balls, flattening one side slightly.

3. Melt candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl at 50% power: 1 minute first, then in 30-second intervals, stirring each time, until smooth.

4. Dip the tip of each lollipop stick into melted candy, then insert into the rounded side of each cake ball. Freeze for 10 minutes.

5. Reheat candy melts if needed. Dip each chilled pop to fully coat, tap off excess, and place facedown on the cookie sheet. Let set for 10–15 minutes.

6. Tint remaining frosting with green food coloring and transfer to a piping bag.

7. Stand cake pops upright in a holder or foam block. Pipe green frosting onto the flattened tops, add sprinkles and candy eyeballs, and let set for 10 minutes before serving.

Spooky-Fun Ways to Serve Cauldron Cake Pops

  • Arrange them upright in a block of black foam so they look like a row of bubbling cauldrons in a witch’s kitchen.

  • Stick them in a pumpkin (real or foam) for a fun Halloween table centerpiece that doubles as dessert.

  • Wrap each one in clear cellophane with a ribbon for easy grab-and-go party favors.

  • Place them on a platter surrounded by gummy worms or candy bones for extra creep factor.

  • Serve them alongside a “witch’s brew” punch for a perfectly themed dessert-and-drink combo.

  • Pop them into mini black cupcake liners so they look like individual mini cauldrons ready to brew trouble.

Serving & Storing

  • Serve the cake pops the same day you decorate them for the freshest texture and best crunch on the candy coating.

  • If making ahead, store them upright in a cake pop stand or flat in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.

  • For longer storage, keep them in the fridge for up to 5 days, just let them come to room temperature before serving so the cake stays soft.

  • Avoid storing them in a warm spot or in direct sunlight, as the candy coating can melt or lose its shine.

  • If you’re gifting them, wrap each one in cellophane to keep them fresh and party-ready.

FAQs

Can I use a different cake flavor?
Absolutely! Chocolate, vanilla, red velvet, they all work. Just pick your favorite (or whatever you have on hand).

Do I have to use black candy melts?
Nope. If you can’t find black, melt dark chocolate and add a little black gel food coloring. It won’t be quite as glossy, but it still looks spooky.

Can I make these without lollipop sticks?
Yes! You can serve them as cake balls instead. Just decorate the tops to look like cauldrons and place them in mini cupcake liners.

How far in advance can I make them?
You can prepare the cake balls up to 2 days ahead and keep them in the fridge, then dip and decorate the day you need them for the freshest look.

What if my candy melts are too thick?
Add a tiny bit of vegetable oil or shortening to thin them out for a smoother coating.
