What to Consider When Buying a Home
Buying a home is an equally stressful and exciting time in one’s life – nothing signifies a new chapter beginning in your life like moving into a new house where new memories will be made, and milestones will be reached. But, for some people, buying a home is nothing short of a nightmare, and they feel like they don’t know where to begin, the costs involved with purchasing a home, and what they should look out for. Luckily, you first off have your real estate agent to assist you with any questions you may have regarding the property; don’t be afraid to ask! They are there to make your house-hunting journey as easy and comfortable as possible and most likely have all the answers you’re looking for. But, there are a few questions you should ask yourself when buying a home, questions only you have the answers to. That said, here are some things to consider when purchasing a home.

What is the budget?
This simple question doesn’t always have a simple answer. When setting up the budget for your home buying experience, you also need to ask yourself what you need out of a house; how many bedrooms? Do you need a spacious kitchen? Do you have pets that would require a large backyard? Once you have established a wish list, it’ll be much easier to set up a realistic budget for the type of house you’ll be looking for. Also, you’ll need to factor in added costs such as the transfer costs, which can sometimes be very expensive depending on the firm you choose. The right conveyancing solicitors will be able to assist you as quickly, efficiently, and in the most cost-effective way possible, and yes, it’s possible! Also, you’ll need to think about the mortgage – what would you be able to afford each month mortgage-wise? Be sure to communicate your budget very clearly to ensure they don’t show you any homes that may fall outside your budget and leave you heartbroken.
Questions to ask when house-hunting
As mentioned earlier, you should never be afraid to ask a lot of questions to your real estate agent when viewing properties; you have a right to know everything about the house before you buy it! Try asking questions like when the roof was replaced, why the owners have decided to sell, and the crime rate in the area. A roof is a costly feature of a home and is definitely not something you want to struggle with after moving in. Also, the owners’ reason for selling should indicate whether the area and the house itself are at fault or if it’s based on more personal reasons. One thing you can do to get some answers is to visit the neighbours before making your final decision – you can ask them whether they enjoy living in the area, how noisy the streets are throughout the day, and whether it’s safe. Neighbours have no reason to lie and should be able to give you a pretty objective answer.
By sticking to the above guidelines, you’ll be able to find your dream home in no time! Remember to stay calm, gather all the info you need, and enjoy every second of the experience.
