6 Steps For Developing Your Personal Brand
When building a business, it’s important to have a personal brand. You’ve probably heard this before, but do you know what it means? Your personal brand is the public perception of who you are and how others perceive your business.

In order for an entrepreneur to have a complete understanding of their brand, they need to follow these six steps:
1. Know Your Brand Values
A brand value should be unique, and it should also align with other traits about your personality or the company’s personality. It should also promote continuous learning, which leads to the ongoing development of yourself and your company (hint: check out the book Zag ). Essentially, knowing your values creates this baseline for establishing who you are in the eyes of consumers/customers.
2. Know Your Value Proposition
According to Talent Zoo, a value proposition is “a statement that communicates the unique value you bring to your consumers.” It’s important for entrepreneurs to know their value proposition in order to present themselves as an expert in their field and to also distinguish themselves from competitors.
3. Hone Your Brand Voice
A brand voice is essentially how your company speaks through its social media, website, product design, etcetera (hint: buy a DVLA number plate to really make it personal). Believe it or not (and yes, this is true), but most companies don’t actually consider who they are speaking to when writing/creating content; they just write to write. By having a clear and defined brand voice, you’ll be able to connect with customers on a deeper level as well as appear more authentic.
4. Choose The Right Channels To Communicate On
This step ties in with the previous one—in order to have a consistent message across all channels, you need to first figure out which channels your target market is active on. Once you’ve identified these channels, it’s important that you create content that resonates with those users and also stay true to your brand voice.
5. Create A Style Guide
A style guide is essentially a set of rules for how your company should look and sound across all mediums. This includes everything from the fonts you use to the colours you chose to your tone of voice. By having a style guide, you’re able to maintain a consistent look and feel for all of your branding materials which will help customers recognize your company more easily.
6. Tell Your Story
Your story is what makes you unique, and it’s also what will attract customers to your business. It’s important to be able to articulate your story in a way that’s interesting, engaging, and, most importantly, authentic. Telling your story allows customers to understand who you are as a person/business, and it also gives them a reason to care about what you do.
There You Have It!
Now that we’ve gone over the six steps for developing your personal brand, let’s talk about why it’s important for entrepreneurs to have a personal brand.
One of the biggest reasons why an entrepreneur should develop their own personal brand is because people are more likely to relate with other people rather than with faceless corporations. By being able to connect with customers on a deeper level, it’ll be easier for them to build trust and form long-lasting relationships.
