Boost Your Income Challenge – Day 18

Welcome to another instalment of the 30 day money making crash course!

Today I want to talk to you about saving money.

Now, I know you’ve signed up to this course to find out how to MAKE money. But think about it. Saving money also helps you to have more free cash – so more money to save or spend on whatever you’ve been struggling to afford. Fantastic!

So, here are some ways you can save money that you might not have thought about! As well as big ways to save money, you’ll also find ways to save on your weekly food bill too!

Direct Debits you don’t need

The first thing you want to do is go through your monthly bank statement. You want to do this at least every 6 months or so. Go through every single direct debit and standing order from the last month. I use my mobile banking app to do this – but you can log in online or use a printed statement, whatever works best for you.

You might be surprised to find subscriptions on there that you’d forgotten about or that you just don’t need. For example, we signed up to Sky Movies over Christmas when they had a half-price offer on, then realised in March that we’d forgotten to cancel it. Cancel anything you don’t need.

Insurance policies

Never, ever just let your insurance policies auto-renew. Insurance companies often offer great rates for the first year to entice new customers. But, then when it comes to renewal time, they’ll bump those prices up. They’re hoping that you’ll just be lazy and let your policy keep running. DON’T fall into that trap!

You can use any insurance comparison site to hunt for a better deal – I can pretty much guarantee you’ll find a better price.

Get freebies when you’re food shopping

There’s no better way to save money than getting things completely free of charge.

One of the ways I get free stuff is through the Shopmium app. Before I go shopping, I’ll have a look on the app and see what’s being given away. I’ve had all sorts! I’ve had free bread, cereal, drinks and much more. You’ll also get a free item just for signing up.

Automatically applied voucher codes

Another thing I LOVE at the moment is the Shoppers Browser Extension.

I’ve installed the browser in Chrome and it’s saved me so much money! Whenever I make a purchase online, the Shoppers extension automatically applies any valid discount codes to my basket and knocks my total down. It’s really clever!

It works on Chrome and Firefox at over 2,500 stores in the UK and 30,000 stores worldwide, including places like Argos, John Lewis and Amazon!

If you applied every single one of these methods to save money THIS MONTH, you could save yourself so much money!
