Boost Your Income Challenge – Day 27
Working for yourself can be soooo rewarding. You put all that hard work in and it’s an amazing feeling when it starts to pay off. But when you first start on any new side hustle, it’s always best to treat it as exactly that – something you do on the side to your main income that brings in some extra money.
I’ve recently been amazed to hear about how many people pay a cleaner – I really didn’t think it was such a popular thing!
If you’re savvy then this is something you could turn into a great side hustle and it could even grow into a full-time business.
Starting a cleaning business
As I said, it’s always a good idea with any new venture to start off small and let it naturally grow. The last thing you want is to be desperate for work with no other source of income.
So, you could start asking family and friends if they’d be interested and advertise on social media.
Just taking on a few hours cleaning every week could fit in really well with your other commitments and provide a great source of income too.
Resources
Initially, you may not actually need to buy any of your own resources. Many people have particular products that they like and they’ll want you to use their own things. Also, there’s no point lugging a vaccum cleaner round with you when every home has one of their own.
Once you start to get more established and take on more customers, you can build up your equipment as you go.
Finding customers
It’s a good idea to decide early on what type of clients you’d like to cater for. Are you going to clean houses or workplaces? It’s probably easiest to get started with cleaning peoples houses. This will cut down on the type of equipment you need drastically. Industrial units can require specialised cleaning equipment and they tend to be much harder to actually clean!
Advertise locally. Ask in your local corner shops if you can put an advert in their window.
You could get some cards or flyers printed so that you can quickly and easily get your name out there!
Facebook local groups are also a fantastic place to find new customers.
Think about offering one-off end of tenancy cleans too. These are always really popular!
You could also get hold of some magnetic signs for your car to advertise your new business. These look really professional when you’re visiting clients and make it really easy for new customers to get hold of your details.
