As you probably know, I’m a HUGE fan of making and saving money wherever I can. One of our biggest outgoings has to be our food shopping. As a family of five, I find that this can really get out of hand if I’m not careful. Cooking on a budget doesn’t actually need to be stressful or too elaborate. There are lots of ways we can achieve healthy eating whilst still staying on top of our budget.
There are a few things we do to save money on our shopping:
- Meal plan – I can’t stress enough how much we save just by doing this! You can get some meal ideas and a free planner here.
- Bulk cooking
- Use up leftovers
One thing I’m going to try over the next few weeks is to use this Savvy Shopper’s Cookbook. I’ve heard SO MANY good things about it! The book show you how to navigate discount supermarkets and shop for fewer ingredients at low prices, without compromising on your favourite meals, flavour or satisfaction!
The book is FULL of meal ideas and even includes a one-week meal plan so it’s really easy to make up a week’s worth of budget food.
There are seven sections, broken down into different meal ideas. This is just the chicken section, which is where I think most of my meals will come from, as we tend to favour chicken over any other meat:
