Gooey Cinnamon Roll Dip

There are some desserts that just disappear the second you put them on the table, and this Cinnamon Roll Dip is definitely one of them. It’s creamy, fluffy, packed with warm cinnamon flavour and finished with a sweet cinnamon swirl that makes it look just like the centre of a giant cinnamon roll. It’s one of those recipes that looks really impressive but couldn’t be much easier to make.

I love making this when I need a quick dessert for a party, family get-together or holiday gathering because there’s no complicated baking involved. It comes together in just a few minutes with simple ingredients, and you can even make it ahead of time if you want to get one less thing done on the day. It’s the kind of recipe that’s always met with, “Ooh, what’s that?” as soon as people spot it.

Serve it with graham crackers, apple slices, vanilla wafers or even extra chunks of cinnamon roll for dipping, and watch it disappear. It’s perfect for Thanksgiving, Christmas, brunches or baby showers, but honestly there’s no reason to wait for a special occasion. If you’re a cinnamon roll fan, I have a feeling this is going to become one of your favourite easy desserts.

Why We Love This Recipe

  • It’s super quick to make with just a handful of simple ingredients. It tastes just like a gooey cinnamon roll with cream cheese frosting.
  • There’s no baking involved, so it’s perfect when you need an easy last-minute dessert.
  • It’s always a hit at parties, Thanksgiving, Christmas or brunch with family and friends.
  • You can serve it with graham crackers, apple slices, vanilla wafers or even extra pieces of cinnamon roll for dipping.
  • It can be made ahead of time, which is always a bonus when you’ve got lots of other things to do.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened – Let it come to room temperature first so it mixes into a smooth, creamy dip without any lumps.

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon – Adds that warm, cosy cinnamon roll flavour that makes this dip so irresistible.

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract – A splash of vanilla brings all the sweet flavours together.

  • ½ cup powdered sugar – Sweetens the cream cheese mixture while keeping it silky smooth.

  • 8 oz tub whipped topping – Fold this in gently to make the dip light, fluffy and perfectly scoopable.

  • 1 cup cinnamon roll pieces – Use homemade or store-bought cinnamon rolls cut into bite-sized pieces.

  • 3.5 oz Kerrygold Cinnamon Sugar Butter – This creates the delicious cinnamon swirl on top that makes the dip look just like a cinnamon roll.

  • ½ cup powdered sugar – Mixed with the melted cinnamon sugar butter to create a thick icing-style drizzle.

  • Graham crackers or apple slices, for dipping (optional) – Perfect for scooping up every last bit, although vanilla wafers or pretzels work well too.

Recipe Instructions

Full measurements and cooking times can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract and powdered sugar. Beat with a hand mixer on low speed until the mixture is smooth, creamy and well combined.

Step 2: Add the whipped topping and gently fold it into the cream cheese mixture using a silicone spatula. Avoid stirring, as this helps keep the dip light and fluffy. Fold in the cinnamon roll pieces until they’re evenly distributed.

Step 3: Place the cinnamon sugar butter in a small microwave-safe bowl and microwave for about 15 seconds, or until softened. Stir in the powdered sugar until you have a thick, smooth icing. If it seems too thin, add a little more powdered sugar until it’s thick enough to drizzle.

Step 4: Spoon the cinnamon icing into a small zip-top bag and snip a tiny corner off. Starting in the centre of the dip, pipe the icing in a spiral, working your way outwards to create the look of a cinnamon roll. Sprinkle with a little extra cinnamon and top with more cinnamon roll pieces if you like. Serve straight away with graham crackers, apple slices or your favourite dippers.

What to Serve with Cinnamon Roll Dip

This Cinnamon Roll Dip is delicious all on its own, but half the fun is choosing what to dip into it. I like putting out a little platter with a few different options so everyone can help themselves. Mixing crunchy, fruity and sweet dippers means there’s something for everyone.

  • Graham crackers – A classic choice that pairs perfectly with the creamy cinnamon flavour.

  • Apple slices – The fresh, crisp apples balance out the sweetness beautifully.

  • Vanilla wafers – Great if you’re after an extra sweet treat.

  • Pretzels – Sweet and salty is always a winning combination.

  • Cinnamon pita chips – Perfect if you want even more cinnamon goodness.

  • Fresh strawberries – Juicy strawberries add a lovely fresh contrast.

  • Extra cinnamon roll pieces – Because you can never have too much cinnamon roll!

Storing

If you happen to have any leftovers, just pop the dip into an airtight container and keep it in the fridge. It’ll stay fresh for around 2–3 days, although I have to admit it rarely lasts that long in our house!

The dip is best served chilled, so if you’ve made it ahead of time, just take it out of the fridge when you’re ready to put it on the table. If the cinnamon swirl has firmed up a little, don’t worry, that’s completely normal and it will soften as it sits at room temperature for a few minutes.

I wouldn’t recommend freezing this one. The cream cheese and whipped topping can change texture once thawed, so it won’t be as smooth and fluffy as when it’s freshly made.

Variations & Substitutions

One of the things I love about this recipe is how easy it is to tweak depending on what you’ve got in the kitchen. It’s really forgiving, so don’t worry if you need to swap a few ingredients around or put your own spin on it.

  • Use homemade cinnamon rolls if you have some left over instead of using shop-bought ones.

  • No Kerrygold Cinnamon Sugar Butter? Mix about 5 tablespoons of softened butter with ⅓ cup cinnamon sugar for a similar flavour.

  • Swap the whipped topping for freshly whipped cream if you prefer, just whip it to stiff peaks before folding it in.

  • Add chopped pecans or walnuts for a little crunch.

  • Stir in mini white chocolate chips for an extra sweet treat.

  • Sprinkle over crushed Biscoff biscuits for a delicious caramelised biscuit flavour.

  • Add a pinch of pumpkin pie spice to turn it into a cosy fall dessert.

  • Try different dippers like shortbread biscuits, vanilla wafers, pretzels or pear slices for something a little different.

How long does Cinnamon Roll Dip last?

Stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, Cinnamon Roll Dip will stay fresh for 2–3 days. Give it a quick stir before serving if needed.

Can I freeze Cinnamon Roll Dip?

I wouldn't recommend freezing it. Cream cheese and whipped topping can separate after thawing, which changes the smooth, fluffy texture of the dip.

Graham crackers and apple slices are my favourite options, but it's also delicious with vanilla wafers, pretzels, strawberries, pear slices or even extra pieces of cinnamon roll.

Can I use homemade cinnamon rolls?

Absolutely! Homemade cinnamon rolls work just as well as shop-bought ones. Just cut them into bite-sized pieces before folding them into the dip.

Yes. If you can't find it, simply mix around 5 tablespoons of softened butter with ⅓ cup of cinnamon sugar to make a similar topping.
