Spooky Purple Monster Wafers (A Fun & Easy Halloween Treat!)

When it comes to Halloween, I love making treats that are just as fun to look at as they are to eat. These Spooky Purple Monster Wafers fit the bill perfectly! They’re bright, playful, and a little bit spooky without being too scary, which makes them such a hit with kids and adults alike. Plus, you only need a handful of ingredients to pull them together, so they’re ideal for when you want something festive without spending hours in the kitchen.

I can’t tell you how much my kids giggle when they see these silly little monster eyes staring up at them. They’re the kind of treat that instantly makes everyone smile, and I love how customizable they are, you can add different colored candy melts, swap out the sprinkles, or even give them two or three eyes for an extra goofy look. It’s such a fun way to get creative in the kitchen without the stress of complicated recipes.

Another reason I adore these wafers is that they’re perfect for parties. You can make a whole batch in no time, and they look like you put way more effort into them than you actually did (always a win in my book!). Whether you’re sending them along for a classroom Halloween party, setting them out as a sweet snack for trick-or-treat night, or just making them with the kids on a lazy October afternoon, these purple monsters are bound to be a hit.

Ingredients

  • 12 oz purple candy melts – These give the wafers their bold, spooky color and sweet candy coating.

  • 3 tablespoons PME Little Monster sprinkles – A playful mix of sprinkles that adds the perfect monster-y touch.

  • 10 vanilla wafers – The simple, crunchy base that makes these treats so easy and delicious.

  • 10 PME pretty eye sprinkles – Because every monster needs a silly eye to bring it to life!

Recipe Instructions

You can find a printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.

1. Melt candy melts in the microwave on defrost for 2 minutes, then stir. Continue heating in 1-minute intervals, stirring between each, until smooth.

2. Dip vanilla wafers into the melted candy and place them on a parchment-lined surface.

3. Add one candy eye to each wafer, then sprinkle with small monster sprinkles.

4. Let set completely before serving.

Serving & Storing

  • I love serving these on a big Halloween platter with other fun treats, they add such a pop of color and always get noticed first.

  • These wafers are the perfect size for little hands, so they’re great for kids’ parties or as a quick grab-and-go snack.

  • If you’re making them ahead of time, just let them set completely and then store them in an airtight container at room temperature.

  • They’ll stay fresh for about 4–5 days, but honestly, they usually disappear long before then in my house!

  • I don’t recommend refrigerating them, since that can make the candy coating sweat and lose its pretty shine.

Variations

  • Try using different candy melt colors – green, orange, or even black – for a whole monster gang instead of just purple.

  • Add more than one candy eye for goofy two-eyed or even three-eyed monsters (my kids think those are the funniest!).

  • Switch up the sprinkles, anything bright and colorful works, and it’s a fun way to make each monster look unique.

  • Turn them into “fancy” monsters by drizzling a second color of melted candy on top once they’ve set.

  • Make them extra special by sandwiching a little frosting between two vanilla wafers before dipping, double the monster fun!

  • Make sure you also take a look at my Frankenstein Wafers and Mummy Wafers.

Substitutions

  • If you can’t find purple candy melts, you can use white melts and stir in a few drops of purple candy coloring.

  • Vanilla wafers are classic here, but shortbread cookies or graham crackers work just as well.

  • Any candy eye sprinkles will do, you don’t need the exact brand, just make sure they’re edible and silly!

  • Don’t have monster sprinkles? Rainbow jimmies, confetti sprinkles, or even crushed candy can add a fun texture.

FAQs

Can I make these ahead of time?
Yes! I usually make them the night before a party, and they hold up beautifully. Just let them set completely and store them in an airtight container.

How long do they stay fresh?
About 4–5 days at room temperature. Honestly, mine never last that long because the kids (and let’s be real, me too!) eat them way too quickly.

Can I freeze Purple Monster Wafers?
I don’t recommend it. Freezing can cause the candy coating to crack or look spotty once thawed, so it’s best to stick with room-temperature storage.

Are these kid-friendly to make?
Absolutely! Kids love helping dip the wafers and stick on the candy eyes. Just handle the melted candy for them if they’re younger, since it can get hot.

Can I use other cookie bases?
Yes! Shortbread cookies, graham crackers, or even sandwich cookies would all work. It’s fun to experiment.
