Whoville-Approved Grinch Oreos (So Fun & Simple!)
Every Christmas, I love making a few whimsical treats that bring a little extra holiday magic to the table, and these Whoville-Approved Grinch Oreos are right at the top of my list. They’re bright, fun, and so simple to make that even the kids can jump in and help. With just a few ingredients and a little bit of melting and dipping, you’ve got the perfect festive cookie that looks straight out of Whoville.
There’s something so fun about turning a classic Oreo into a holiday masterpiece. The green candy coating makes them instantly eye-catching, and that tiny red heart sprinkle is the sweetest little nod to the Grinch’s big change of heart. Every time I make these, they disappear from the cookie tray faster than I can set them down. They’re perfect for cookie swaps, holiday movie nights, or just adding a touch of whimsy to your Christmas dessert table.
What I love most is that they’re no-bake, stress-free, and only take a few minutes to put together. The kids get such a kick out of helping press the hearts on while the candy is still soft, and I get to check “festive treat” off my holiday to-do list without spending hours in the kitchen. These Grinch Oreos are proof that holiday baking doesn’t have to be complicated to be magical.

Items Needed
- Medium microwave safe mixing bowl
- Cookie sheet or cooling rack
- Parchment paper
- Candy dipper or fork
Ingredients
-
14.3oz bag (405g, 36 cookies) of regular Oreo cookies – I always reach for a classic bag of Oreos since they’re the perfect base for this festive makeover.
-
1 and 1/2 cups (9oz, 255g) green candy melts – These melts give the cookies their signature Grinchy green coat that makes them instantly fun and festive.
-
Heart sprinkles – A little red heart on top is the sweetest finishing touch, just like the Grinch’s heart growing three sizes!

Recipe Instructions
You can find a printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.
1. Line a baking sheet or cooling rack with parchment paper.
2. Add the green candy melts to a microwave-safe bowl and heat for 1 minute at 50% power. Stir, then continue microwaving in 30-second intervals at 50% power, stirring between each, until smooth and fully melted. This can take up to 5 minutes, depending on your microwave.

3. Dip each Oreo cookie into the melted candy using a fork or candy dipper, making sure it’s completely coated. Let any extra coating drip off.

4. Set the dipped Oreo onto the parchment paper and quickly press a heart sprinkle into the top before the coating hardens. Allow the cookies to sit for about 10 minutes, or until the candy has fully set, before serving.

My Favorite Ways to Enjoy Grinch Oreos
-
I love setting these out on a Christmas movie night snack board, especially if we’re watching How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
-
They make the cutest little gifts when I pop a few into clear treat bags and tie them with a red or green ribbon.
-
I like to serve them alongside mugs of hot cocoa topped with whipped cream and crushed candy canes for the ultimate cozy combo.
-
They’re always a hit at cookie swaps, I never bring any home because they get snapped up right away!
-
Sometimes I even tuck them into my kids’ lunchboxes during December for a sweet holiday surprise.

Serving & Storing
-
These cookies are best served once the candy coating has fully set, about 10 minutes is usually all it takes.
-
If you’re making them for a party, I like to arrange them on a festive platter with a little extra sprinkle of hearts scattered around for decoration.
-
To store, just pop them into an airtight container at room temperature, and they’ll stay fresh for up to a week.
-
I usually layer them between sheets of parchment paper so they don’t stick together or smudge the decorations.
-
If you’re prepping ahead for holiday gatherings, you can easily make them a couple of days in advance, and they’ll still taste just as good.

Variations
-
Swap out the green candy melts for red or white if you want to switch up the holiday look.
-
Instead of heart sprinkles, try adding tiny snowflake sprinkles for a winter wonderland vibe.
-
Use Golden Oreos for a sweeter twist that looks extra bright and cheery under the green coating.
-
For a little sparkle, sprinkle edible glitter or sanding sugar on top before the coating sets.
-
You could even dip just half the Oreo in green candy melts and leave the other half showing for a fun “dipped” effect.

Substitutions
-
If you can’t find green candy melts, you can use white chocolate chips and stir in a few drops of green food coloring.
-
No heart sprinkles? Red M&Ms or red confetti sprinkles work just as well for that Grinchy touch.
-
Any sandwich cookie will work in place of Oreos, though I think the classic Oreo filling pairs perfectly with the candy coating.
-
If you don’t have parchment paper, wax paper or a silicone baking mat will do the trick.
-
For a dairy-free option, grab dairy-free chocolate melts instead of regular candy melts, they’ll coat just as smoothly.

Can kids help make these?
Absolutely! Kids love dipping the Oreos and pressing on the little heart sprinkles. It’s a fun holiday activity the whole family can enjoy.
