Switching to eco-friendly bathroom products
If you’re a regular reader here then you’ll know that I’ve been working with SaveMoneyCutCarbon to reduce the amount of single-use plastic we use at home. This month, we’ve been looking into the different ways that we can be a little more eco-friendly with the products we use in the bathroom. As always, SaveMoneyCutCarbon have a whole host of products that are perfect for cutting back on single-use plastic and opting for a more environmentally friendly approach.
I’m always surprised at the amount of hidden plastic in items that we use everyday, but even products that don’t contain plastics themselves are often wrapped in plastic. Think about toilet rolls for example, pretty much every brand of toilet roll found in the supermarket is wrapped in plastic. So it’s not just the obvious plastic products such as toothbrushes that we need to think about when we’re cutting back on single-use plastic. We always need to be mindful of the packaging used too.
SaveMoneyCutCarbon offer a really wide range of products for those of us wanting to make a few eco-friendly switches, and their bathroom products are perfect for making some simple switches that can have a big impact on our environment.
Non plastic Bamboo Cotton Buds
Most cotton buds are still sold in plastic tubs, and it’s frightening to learn that only 9% of the plastic ever made has actually been recycled. These bamboo cotton buds and their packaging are 100% biodegradable making them a far more environmentally friendly option.

Save a Flush – Water Displacement Bag
As well as thinking about cutting back on plastic, we should also be more aware of how much water we waste every day. We can’t get away from the fact that we’re probably going to flush the toilet multiple times a day, but we can use one of these clever displacement bags to ensure we cut back on how much water we use.

On average, one of these bags will save over 4,800 litres of water in just one year – that’s a lot of water! As a family of five on a water meter, this will also save us a good chunk of money each year too.
Reusable make up remover pads
We all know that using throwaway wipes or disposable cotton pads to remove our make up is not the most eco-friendly way to clean our skin. It’s always far more sustainable to switch to reusable products. SaveMoneyCutCarbon offer a washable alternative that even comes with it’s own 100% cotton mesh wash bag. These reusable pads can be washed time and time again and once you’ve bought them, they’ll last for years, meaning you’ll be helping both the environment and your bank balance!
Biodegradable Bamboo Toothbrush
Most of us are used to using a plastic toothbrush and replacing it every 3 to 6 months. But did you ever stop to think about how bad this is for the environment? Bamboo toothbrushes are completely biodegradable meaning that when they’re ready to replace, you can simply dispose of them with your garden waste!
Bamboo bandages
With three children in the house, it seems as though there’s always at least one child in need of a plaster or a bandage – those bikes have a lot to answer for! But traditional plasters use a lot of plastic and once they’re thrown away, they can take many years to break down. Bamboo plasters and bandages are a great eco-friendly alternative – as with the toothbrushes, they are 100% biodegradable!
Tube Squeezer
It took me a little while to work out what to do with this little gadget, but it’s a real game changer!

I always get frustrated about trying to get the last bit of the toothpaste out of the tube, and the kids really struggle to squeeze it out too. This tube squeezer makes it really easy to get every last drop out of tubes of toothpaste, cream and even make up. The key-shaped squeezer has a little gap in the prong. All you need to do is place the end of the tube inside this gap and then roll the key upwards, forcing out even the tiniest of amounts left in the tube. This is a great way to cut back on waste, and yet again you’ll be helping both the environment and your wallet.
SaveMoneyCutCarbon really do make switching to a more eco-friendly way of life so simple! They have a really wide range of products aimed specifically at making our bathrooms more eco-friendly and I’ve really enjoyed trying these out this month!
