5 reasons why a glass of whisky might actually be good for you
We all know that drinking too much alcohol is pretty bad for our health, but did you know that a glass of whisky now and then could actually benefit you? There are a few health and wellbeing benefits to the odd glass of the good stuff, so it’s perfectly acceptable to allow yourself a tipple now and then, or even to treat someone you love to a whisky gift set.
1. Helping to keep your heart healthy
Moderate drinking has been linked to lowering a person’s chances of suffering from heart disease. Drinking a moderate amount helps to keep the arteries clear by boosting the amount of good cholesterol in the body.
Alcohol is also known to thin the blood which in turn reduces the risk of a blood clot.
Of course, we all know that regular exercise and a healthy, balanced diet are the best ways to keep your heart healthy, but a glass of whisky at the end of the day can help too.
2. Reducing stress and anxiety
We all lead such busy lives these days, it’s no wonder that many of us suffer from stress and anxiety. Whether it’s work troubles or other issues, a glass of whisky can really help you to relax and unwind at the end of a tough day.

3. Fight against cancer
This is a pretty bold one, but whisky contains something called ellagic acid which is believed to help in the fight against cancer. It works by reducing the chance of carcinogens forming inside of the body. Whilst whisky definitely isn’t a miracle cancer cure, it’s certainly the better choice for anybody concerned about the possibility of developing cancer in later life.
4. Helping you to consume fewer calories
Alcoholic drinks such as beer, lager and Guinness are really heavy in calories. In comparison, whisky is far better for you if you’re watching your waistline. If you are keeping an eye on your weight, or even trying to lose weight, then whisky is a far better option than some of the other alcoholic options. Just be mindful of what you use a mixer. If whisky and coke is your preferred tipple, then switch down to a diet option to keep the calories down.
5. No carbohydrates
Along with some other spirits, whisky is completely free of carbohydrates, making it the perfect choice for diabetics and those trying to cut back on the carbs. Drinking whisky doesn’t have any negative impact on your blood sugar, so whilst I’m not suggesting you go out and drink glass after glass, it is safe to enjoy a glass or two from time to time.
All of these five reasons highlight why whisky is often the preferred choice of drink for those trying to take better care of their general health and wellbeing. So, if you’re looking to buy a gift for somebody you care about, a whisky gift box really would make a great choice!
