One of the most rewarding jobs I’ve ever had was actually a side hustle I had whilst I was at university. I worked as a part-time carer for an agency. I LOVED that job and it was so flexible that I could fit it really easily around my lectures and placements.
I signed up for two home-carer agencies, gave them my hours of availability and the areas I could cover and then they sent work my way.
At the time, I was travelling everywhere on the bus but it was still really achievable!
I ended up with a small number of clients and I’d generally visit one on my way into university and one on my way home. I also did some work over the weekends too.
Work was pretty varied. I did food shopping, cleaning and some personal care jobs too.
It’s really easy to get into care work, but you do need to have the right kind of personality. Whilst I did really enjoy the work, you need to often have a lot of patience and be prepared to help people who are incredibly vulnerable.
It’s such a rewarding job though. Signing up to the agencies meant that all the work I did was temporary and I could duck out of work when I had a lot on at university.
So, if you think you’re cut out for it then you should give it a go!
Have a search online for home-care agencies and there are bound to be some local to you.
