How to stop underarm sweat

Sweating is a normal and natural part of being human, and our bodies actually need to be able to sweat in order to cool us down. But sometimes, that sweating can become an embarrassing problem. If you find that you sweat excessively, then there are things you can do to help reduce sweating.

Why do we sweat?

Sweating is the body’s way of bringing down our temperature. When we start to get too hot, we start to sweat. As the sweat evaporates, it helps to cool us down. Without sweating, our bodies wouldn’t be able to cool down as efficiently.

why do we sweat

So we know our body needs to sweat sometimes, but what can you do when sweating starts to become an every day, embarrassing situation? Some people sweat excessively even when they don’t particularly feel hot. This could be due to anxiety, stress and sometimes it’s because of certain types of medication. If you find that sweating is getting in the way of your daily life, then there are things you can do to limit it. Here a few suggestions about how to stop armpit sweat.

How to prevent underarm sweating

Make sure you’re using an antiperspirant

You might be surprised to learn that antiperspirant and deodorant are actually two completely different products. Antiperspirant is designed to stop sweating whilst deodorant only masks any potential offensive smells caused by sweating. Make sure you use a high-quality antiperspirant in order to combat underarm sweat.

Adapt your wardrobe

If you’re prone to sweating, then making some changes to your wardrobe could help you to feel a little less self-conscious.

Darker colours make sweat far less noticeable than light colours. Avoid pale colours and greys as these can make sweat marks far more obvious.

Also, choose clothes made from breathable materials such as cotton or linen rather than synthetic or polyester items.

Wash regularly

Take a shower every day to help eliminate any embarrassing sweat smells. Use an anti-bacterial cleanser to keep your armpits fresh and make sure you dry your skin thoroughly before applying antiperspirant.

Focus on your diet

Your diet and what you eat and drink can have a big impact on how much you sweat. Eating hot or spicy food can trigger your body to sweat as the food heats your body from the inside out. This is also true of hot drinks and things like soup. Stimulants such as caffeine can also cause you to sweat as they increase your heart rate. Try cutting back on these and introducing more water into your diet as keeping hydrated can make a big difference.

Figuring out what works for you can be a little bit of trial and error. But try to focus on the fact that sweating is a natural human response and it really shouldn’t be something to be embarrassed about.
