The Cutest Snowman Oreos for Your Christmas Cookie Tray

There’s something about holiday baking that just makes everything feel extra cozy, and these Snowman Oreos are the perfect little treat to bring that festive cheer to your cookie tray. I love recipes like this because they’re fun, easy, and don’t require a whole afternoon in the kitchen. Plus, who can resist a snowman made out of one of the world’s favorite cookies? They always bring a smile to both kids and adults alike.

What I really enjoy about making these Snowman Oreos is how much of a craft project they feel like. It’s less about baking and more about decorating, which means the whole family can get involved. My kids absolutely love helping with these. One dips the Oreos, another adds the candy buttons and “carrot” noses, and we all laugh while drawing silly little snowman faces. It’s a holiday memory in the making, and that’s honestly the best part.

They also look so adorable lined up on a Christmas cookie tray. Whether I’m bringing them to a holiday party, gifting them in a little box, or just setting them out for an after-dinner treat, they always get noticed (and devoured pretty quickly). These cute little Snowman Oreos are proof that festive desserts don’t have to be complicated to be special. Sometimes, the simplest ideas turn out to be the most magical.

Items Needed

  • Medium microwave safe mixing bowl
  • Cookie sheet or cooling rack
  • Parchment paper
  • Candy dipper or fork

Ingredients

  • 14.3oz bag (405g, 36 cookies) of regular Oreo cookies – the classic base for our adorable little snowmen.

  • 1 and 1/2 cups (9oz, 255g) white candy melts – to give each Oreo that perfect snowy coat.

  • 72 M&M’s or smarties – colorful earmuffs to keep our snowmen cozy.

  • 36 unicorn horn sprinkles – the cutest way to make a tiny carrot nose.

  • Pull and peel or shoelace licorice – to connect the earmuffs and add a pop of color.

  • 3-4 tablespoons of black cookie icing – for dotting on cheerful eyes and a big coal smile.

Recipe Instructions

You can find a printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.

1. Line a baking sheet or cooling rack with parchment paper.

2. Add the candy melts to a microwave-safe bowl and heat them at 50% power for 1 minute. Stir, then continue heating in 30-second intervals at 50% power, stirring each time, until fully melted and smooth. This may take up to 5 minutes depending on your microwave.

3. Using a fork or candy dipper, dip each Oreo into the melted candy until fully coated, letting any excess drip off.

4. Place the coated Oreo onto the prepared parchment paper. Quickly press two M&Ms onto the sides to form earmuffs, attach a piece of licorice over the top to connect them, and add a unicorn horn sprinkle in the center for the snowman’s carrot nose.

5. Allow the Oreos to sit for about 10 minutes until the candy sets. Once hardened, use black cookie icing to draw on two eyes and a smiling mouth. Let them rest for another 5 minutes before serving.

My Favorite Ways to Enjoy Snowman Oreos

  • I love adding these to my Christmas cookie tray, they always steal the show with their cute little snowman faces.

  • They make such a sweet (and easy!) homemade gift when wrapped up in a festive box or bag.

  • My kids like enjoying them with a big mug of hot chocolate for the ultimate winter treat.

  • They’re perfect for holiday movie nights. Snacking on snowmen while watching Frosty the Snowman feels just right!

  • I’ve even used them as edible place settings at the holiday table, and they were such a fun surprise for guests.

Serving & Storing

  • I like to serve these Snowman Oreos on a big platter with other Christmas cookies, they add such a playful touch to any dessert spread.

  • If you’re hosting a holiday party, you can even stand them upright in a mug or jar filled with mini marshmallows for a fun display.

  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature, and they’ll stay fresh for up to a week.

  • If your kitchen is on the warmer side, pop them in the fridge so the candy coating doesn’t soften.

  • They’re great to make ahead, so you can prep them a few days before your holiday gathering without any stress.

Variations

  • Switch up the candy melts, try milk chocolate or dark chocolate if you’d rather have chocolatey snowmen.

  • Use mini Reese’s Pieces, Skittles, or even jelly beans instead of M&Ms for the earmuffs.

  • Try rainbow licorice strings or sour belts for a colorful twist on the earmuff band.

  • Add a sprinkle of edible glitter or sanding sugar while the coating is still wet for a frosty sparkle.

  • Get creative with faces – make winking snowmen, surprised snowmen, or even a silly snowman sticking his tongue out with a bit of red icing.

Substitutions

  • If you don’t have Oreo cookies, you can use any chocolate sandwich cookie you like.

  • No candy melts on hand? White chocolate chips or almond bark work just as well.

  • Swap M&Ms for Smarties, Sixlets, or any small round candy that will fit as earmuffs.

  • If you can’t find unicorn horn sprinkles, a tiny orange sprinkle or a dab of orange icing makes a perfect little carrot nose.

  • Don’t have black cookie icing? Melt a few dark chocolate chips and use a toothpick to draw on the eyes and smile instead.

FAQs

Can I make Snowman Oreos ahead of time?
Yes! These are great to prep a few days in advance. Just store them in an airtight container and they’ll stay fresh and cute until you’re ready to serve.

Do I need to keep them in the fridge?
Not necessarily. They’ll be fine at room temperature for up to a week, but if your kitchen is warm, it’s best to pop them in the fridge so the candy coating doesn’t get too soft.

Can kids help make these?
Absolutely! This is such a fun recipe to do with kids since it’s more decorating than baking. Just handle the candy melts for them if they’re very young.

What if I can’t find unicorn horn sprinkles?
No worries! Any small orange sprinkle, a tiny candy, or even a little dot of orange icing will work as the snowman’s carrot nose.

Can I use different cookies?
Of course! Oreos are classic, but you can use any sandwich cookie you like. Just make sure they’re sturdy enough to dip into the candy melts without falling apart.
